From each client you take on [The Writer’ s Life]( June 9, 2022 "A blank page is no empty space. It is brimming with potential … It is a masterpiece in waiting – yours." – AA Patawaran, Write Here Write Now How much money are you looking to make from your writing each year, {NAME}? $50,000? $75,000? $150,000? More? I want you to name a specific number. Because today we're going to work through a few examples of how to hit it. Now, if you're just starting out, you might not feel ready for this, yet … But you will be! And in my experience, the more knowledge you have about what's in store, the easier it is to navigate the path. So whatever number you land on, divide it by the 12 months in the year to get your monthly goal … And then let's create a few scenarios to get you there! Now, if you have our free, downloadable [pricing guide](, you know there are MANY ways to get to your number. But today, I'm going to show you how to get there using $5K increments. If you need to make $5K/month, you'll only need one client. If you need to make $15K/month, you'll need three. Can you earn more per client? Of course. But at a recent writer's retreat, an attendee asked: "What's worth $5,000 a month?" She wanted to wrap her head around what a $5K/month contract could entail. What I like about the question is that it gives you an easy way to SEE what you need to hit your end goal. And create a plan for getting there. Here's what I shared with her … $5,000 Option #1: Writing Emails If you have a client who sends an email a day, you're set. I'd happily pay a writer $5,000 a month to write 25 new emails a month. $200/email is an amazing deal for your client. And while it seems like a lot of writing, remember that email length varies from 100 to 800 words on average. And once you get good, you can easily knock out five in a day … Giving you enough time to take on numerous clients. Or more time to spend however you darn well please. 😉 $5,000 Option #2: Content Bundle You can spin this one numerous ways … but basically you're taking on multiple pieces of a client's content marketing strategy. It could be writing their weekly newsletter and then writing all the social media posts to maximize the content and engage with the readers. It could be writing a set number of articles optimized for the search engines each month, and then writing ads to drive traffic to them. Or developing an editorial calendar, writing a few blog posts each week, and turning them into video posts for their YouTube channel. With this option you're basically taking a simple retainer (like writing a newsletter OR writing for social media) and adding in more content types so the fee can be increased. $5,000 Option #3: Strategizing Once you've got some experience, and some systems in place for increasing your writing income (as we talked about yesterday), I recommend moving into a strategist role. Which means thinking about what a company should or could be doing with its copy or content … And then advising them both on the strategy and the steps to achieve it. The more skills and experience you acquire, the better equipped you become to move into strategy. And THIS is where the money gets fun … and even easier … It could be a weekly call, or it could be monthly … But your job is to create marching orders for the client's in-house team or contractors. Your effort is in creating the opportunities, rather than writing to help companies take advantage of them. And you get paid for that. Don't get me wrong, you'll do some work in between thinking, exploring options and strategizing! But when it comes to hours spent, this one allows you to take on numerous clients at one time. Wherever you are in your career, keep this one in your sights. And commit to learning as much as you can about whatever area of writing you're focusing on, so you can level up to this opportunity. $5,000 Option #4: Training or Chiefing Other Writers The more you learn from AWAI, the more you'll find yourself teaching your clients and other writers and marketers you work with. It's inevitable! And we invite you to use our proven systems and methodologies when doing so. They work at teaching complicated concepts. And clients love them. 😁 We hear story after story of AWAI members being celebrated as "marketing geniuses" simply because they explained a concept or introduced our copy review process to a client. And while you might be able to write one sales letter at a time, most of our copy chiefs can oversee 3-4 at a time. And yes, you can get paid to chief … AND get a piece of the royalties too. So, there you have it! Four ways to make $5,000 a month PER client. You can choose to make more, or you can choose to make less … But the idea here is to set yourself up with an easy way to create a path to your financial goals. Rather than working and working and hoping you get there. ;) Before I close out, just a reminder that today is your LAST CHANCE to gain lifetime access to AWAI's entire library of home study and business-building resources … For a tiny fraction of what you might pay on a one-off basis.
