WEEK IN REVIEW --------------------------------------------------------------- June 10 ? 14, 2019

[AWAI]( WEEK IN REVIEW --------------------------------------------------------------- June 10 – 14, 2019 Hi {NAME}, If you missed the email I sent you on Thursday about the limited time buy-back proposal I'm offering you, here it is in a nutshell … (You'll quickly see why it drives our CFO crazy!) If you've bought a course, program, or business-building resource from AWAI over the past 12 months … I'd like to buy it back from you … at the full price you paid … And instead — offer you something MUCH better. It's a way to have even more learning resources — everything you'll ever need as a professional copywriter — at your fingertips … For your entire career. We don't make this proposal often … You'll understand why when you [see it, here](. There's even been a quiet campaign among some members of AWAI's management team in recent years to discontinue [this offer]( all together. But for now, the deal is still on for the first 75 members that respond. [Go here now for all the details.]( Hope you have a great weekend! Katie What's Trending This Week … [Inside AWAI Playback Available — How to Land Freelance Writing Projects with Agencies and Other Firms]( If you missed yesterday's fun and informative free webinar about how to land agency projects, you can catch the full replay [here](. AWAI's Director of Copywriting Training Pam Foster, PWA Managing Editor Jen Adams, and Idea Grove Senior Content Manager Les Worley gave you their proven strategies for getting started with ad agencies, marketing firms, copy/content firms, web development companies, and graphic design firms. They answered dozens of questions at the end … some things that might be on your mind too. I highly recommend you check it out. [4 Spots Still Open to Work with Dan Kennedy at his Business of Copywriting Academy 2.0]( Million-dollar copywriting Dan Kennedy will be going in-depth into the Business of Copywriting with a small group of AWAI members next month in Cleveland, OH. He announced this "last time" event at Bootcamp last month and almost half the seats were swooped up right away. As of today, there are still 4 spots open. To learn more about what Dan's planning for the serious-minded and business-minded writers who join him for these two intense days with him, [click here](. Dan held one of these trainings about 10 years ago. Cindy Cyr was there and has this to say about it: "The Business of Copywriting with Dan Kennedy was a gamechanger for me! I easily made my money back within the first 30 days after returning home. It was Dan Kennedy who taught me how to run a profitable, consistent business. It was this workshop that taught me how to position myself to get better paying clients and how to entice them to stay and even refer. I went from mostly 'one and done' copywriting jobs that often paid too little and created inconsistent income to mostly long-term clients who pay me handsomely every month. In fact, since I took Dan's advice, I've held onto clients for years." Dan hasn't done it again since … and was very clear with me that this Copywriting Academy 2.0 he'll be hosting next month will be the last one he ever does. [Here's everything you need to know about it.]( [More From Dan … Dan Kennedy on the Importance of Treating Your Copywriting Career Like a Business]( I sat down with Dan last month and asked him more about his successful 40+-year career as a million-dollar-a-year copywriter. Listen in on our conversation for insights and strategies you can start applying … wherever you are in your career. From PWA's Managing Editor, Jen Adams … It's time … PWA's $1,000 writing challenge is happening NOW Have you checked out PWA's latest $1,000 writing challenge? Over the years we've given away thousands of dollars in prizes, helped dozens of writers earn their first bylines, and seen challenge winners go on to highly successful careers. Our theme this year comes from Dan Kennedy, our industry's self-anointed Professor of Harsh Realities. Underneath his gruff persona is someone who deeply cares about helping writers (and others) reach their peak potential … a goal PWA shares as well. Toward that end, the "No Excuses" $1,000 Writing Challenge offers you the chance at extra rewards for tackling your personal obstacles and excuses head-on, all in the name of building a writer's life you'll love. If you're a PWA member, you can get all the competition details on your myAWAI Member Page … and get started right away for your best chance at the $1,000 in prizes! If you aren't a PWA member yet … [now's the time to join!]( Copywriters, Did You Know … In the past 5 years the number of people working from home has grown 115% as both companies and workers discover just how many benefits there are in skipping the commute. Of the 3.7 million US employees who work at least half their time from home, 86% say they're more productive when they work from home and aren't surrounded by office distractions like social chatter and meetings … And 82% reported lower stress levels and higher morale. Which means when you put your writing skills to work for you and create this opportunity for yourself to work from home you can look forward to being happier, less stressed, and more productive overall. [4 Simple Strategies I Used to Get My First Copywriting Jobs]( By REBEKAH MAYS To launch your copywriting career, you can use strategies you're most comfortable with. Here are four examples one AWAI member used to get her first jobs. Celebrating Your Success Congratulations to Kammy, $3,000 Winner of Carline Anglade-Cole's Kick Butt Cover Test Triple Challenge! Here are the details direct from Kammy … AWAI and Carline Anglade-Cole (one of the top copywriters in natural health today) recently teamed up to hold a Kick Butt Cover Test Triple Challenge for one of Carline's clients. The Challenge was intended to refresh magalog copy and design for 3 products. Between the 3 products, 52 writers submitted 220 covers for Carline to proof. Yikes! But Carline plowed through them all, choosing 13 covers for the blood pressure product, 10 for the cardio product, and 6 for the vitality product. She partnered with the writers to finalize the concepts and copy, then the covers were sent to the client to decide which ones to design and test in the mail. Working with Carline was a fantastic experience — she's incredibly knowledgeable of the supplement markets, and going through her copywriting program then working with her on the cover tests was like getting a Master's degree in natural health marketing. But even more valuable for me was seeing how she negotiated for copy that she believed was a winner when the client wanted to reject it. Both of my blood pressure tests were a bit edgy toward pharma and the FDA, and Carline's client didn't want to "go there." But because I wasn't making a head-on attack, and was using information that had been made public, Carline went toe-to-toe with the client on behalf of my ideas. It was an excellent lesson in client/writer relationships and how much power writers can actually have in the relationship when we take a position of marketing "partner" to the client rather than just a writer, vendor, or contractor. In the end, Carline prevailed. The client relented, and mailed my tests. It's been a crazy few months, but when the dust cleared, both of my covers beat the control for the blood pressure product line. Yes! And the drug recall cover, not only "spanked the control," according to Carline, it beat all of the other 219 covers to become the overall contest winner, earning a generous prize of $3,000! Yes! And Woot Woot! And Yowza!! Thanks, Carline and AWAI! The contest was so fun and really enlightening!
