This can be a game changer… July 17, 2024 [The Writer’ s Life]( "Stay committed to your decisions but stay flexible in your approach." — Tony Robbins Hi {NAME}, [Michele Peterson]( here, back again for your quick midweek check-in! Today I'm going to help you strengthen the commitment you've (ideally) made this week to take action … And meet the deadlines you've (ideally) set for your next steps. But you may be thinking … Wait a darn minute! My commitment is plenty strong. I don't need any help! I know. I thought the same thing once upon a time. And while my commitment to myself was — and is — strong … It's even stronger when I make my commitment known to someone else. Commitment is stronger with accountability backing it up. Various studies prove that when you tell someone else about the action you're committed to, you are more likely to follow through and take said action. That's because it's easier to procrastinate or keep pushing back the deadline you've given yourself when you're the only one who knows about it. Telling someone else about your commitment gives you accountability. It gives your internal commitment an external — extra — boost. So, where can you find accountability? Really, just about anywhere. But here are a few common places, in no particular order: - Accountability Partner - Mentor - Family - Friends - Facebook Group - Social Media Of course, an actual accountability partner or mentor will check in with you and ask for progress updates. But even the act of going public with your commitment strengthens it. Proclaiming it makes it "real." So, {NAME}, today I encourage you to tell someone about the action you've committed to take and the deadline you've given yourself for it. And if that goal happens to be getting published with a byline, and possibly getting paid for the article, [then go here](. Rebecca is going to make reaching that goal VERY easy for you. 😉 I'll be back tomorrow with a tip to help you build confidence … even if it's for something you have zero experience with. Cheering you on! Getting more done gives me more time to practice writing, increases the flow of money, and gives me time left over to learn new skills and enjoy the writer's life. Recently, I've discovered an easy and effective trick to increase my daily productivity. It's something anyone can do, and I guarantee you'll see results. Make yourself accountable to someone else. Yes, that's it. Enlist others to make sure you get things done, and watch your freelance productivity soar. Without a supervisor or boss looking over your shoulder, it can be tempting to procrastinate. But with an accountability partner, you're forced to keep going. So if you're ready to get your first "win" under your belt … [Let me show you how to do it.]( Get a Success Boost When You Find Your Tribe By Bonnie Caton "You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with." If you've ever taken an interest in self-improvement, you've probably seen that popular quote by motivational speaker Jim Rohn. It's one of those things that seems true. And while it may or may not be that simple, research shows that our behaviors are definitely influenced by those around us. For example, a number of studies have revealed that we eat more when we're around people who eat a lot. Other studies show that your work performance is influenced by your nearby coworkers. If you work within 25 feet of a high performer, it may give you a 15% "boost" in your own productivity. Why does this matter to writers, who largely work from home? For one, we have to be careful who we share our dreams with. After all, even your closest friends and family may not "get it" when you tell them you want to be a paid writer. Since they have no idea how many people are finding success and completely transforming their lives in our world, it just doesn't make sense to them that you'd try it, too. It's satisfying because we have so many answers at our fingertips … Google anything and you'll have solutions in .002 seconds. It's fantastic because things like open-heart surgery and people going into space are real. But as for unrealistic and impossible … Well, let's just say there are beauty and success standards that abound in this world … And they can't be realized by real people. - Think about every image you've seen of women aging gracefully (with the help of cosmetic surgeries and photo filters). - Picture every story of "overnight success" that led to a well-staged photograph of an entrepreneur in front of a Jaguar, or a fountain, or a seven-bedroom mansion. - Consider every tiny white pill that's supposed to take away all your ailments with minimal side effects and only a $35 monthly commitment for life. Point is, the idea of "doing the work" is kind of quashed in our culture.
