Try it this weekend! May 17, 2024 [The Writer’ s Life]( "Part of being successful is about asking questions and listening to the answers." — Anne Burrell Happy Friday, {NAME}! Pam Foster here, one last time … I'm excited to wrap up this week with my all-time favorite way to get your foot in the door with clients. As you may recall, on Monday I advised you to tell EVERYONE YOU KNOW that you're a professional marketing writer. That includes family, friends, local business folks you know, former college buddies, and so on. EVERYONE. 🙂 But don't just tell them you're a writer. They may not know what that means to them or their business. Instead, try this simple approach that opens doors to work. It's a complete flip on telling people what you do. Instead … Ready? Ask them how their marketing is going. For instance, when I meet a local businessperson, I may casually mention that I make websites work better. That gets their attention. Then I ask, "How's your website working for you these days?" Quite often, this question opens the floodgates for clients whose websites are boring, underperforming, or just plain dated. They know they need help, and they're grateful that you've asked. You can be a hero to these potential clients by offering to do a professional "audit" of their site's content, find out what's missing, and make recommendations for improvement. Many, many AWAI members have taken this approach to land clients and then used my program [Site Audits Made Simple]( to get a quick paycheck at the same time. If you are just starting out as a writer … Rebecca has put together [this insider's guide]( to show you how to get started with a simple four-step formula … along with some real examples you can use as templates. And today it's free with your Barefoot Writer magazine subscription — which you can grab for the next few hours for just $11. [Claim it here!]( Hope you have a great weekend! One of the easiest ways is with site audits. If you're not familiar with the term, a site audit is a review of a website. You perform a diagnostic check of the website's content by using a checklist to identify any weaknesses. Why do clients need site audits? Because so many websites simply don't perform. Maybe users click away, or the website doesn't get traffic. And the business owner has no idea why. Surprisingly, the most basic details are often missing … Contact details are not listed, or the site doesn't explain what the business does, or there's no search bar. Your job as a site auditor is to identify these gaps. Then you present them to the client in a report. The process is so straightforward … yet the client will think you're a genius! And they'll view you as an expert. [Grab it all for $11.]( Get Paid Twice When You Do Site Audits for Clients By Susanna Perkins "I love this topic, because it instantly puts you in the driver's seat!" That's how Pam Foster, a web expert and AWAI's director of training, led off a discussion on using site audits to land clients. The beauty of the site audit, she said, is that you get paid to present your proposal, and then get paid again for doing the work. What Is a Site Audit? There are two types of site audits. The first is a technical audit, which includes things like link checking and looking at background programming. The other type focuses on how the site content works to drive traffic and achieve the company's marketing goals. That's the type of site audit Pam offers. No matter who the client is, Pam always approaches her site audits in the same way. [Continue reading here.]( Your ALL-ACCESS Key — Just $1!
