Nonetheless, consumer spending dropped to only 0.1% in the US in August, and revolving credit, which includes credit cards, fell 2.2% after a two-year high of 10.5% in July. American Express had mixed results in the latest earnings calls, but traders so far have been rewarding the stock, which returned around 20% year to date.
