Dear friends, One year ago, Saudi Arabia bombed a school bus packed with small children in Yemen -- killing 40 of them. They were between the ages 6-11 -- returning from a soccer trip. The bomb that killed those children? American made. Together we ramped up massive pressure on Congress to stop US participation in the Yemen war, and after hundreds of phone calls and messages, both houses passed a bill to end the US military's role in the war! But unsurprisingly, Trump vetoed it. Now we have a new, bulletproof opportunity -- amendments to suspend arms sales and get the American military out of this war were introduced into a mega spending bill, and it will be very hard for Trump to use his veto this time. But first, leading Democrats must decide to keep these amendments in the final bill, and save Yemen's children. Here’s where we come in! They’re negotiating the bill right now, and key Democrats might give in to Republican pressure, unless they hear from us! Call Senator Jack Reed: (202) 224-4642 Call Speaker Nancy Pelosi: (202) 225-4965 Call Rep. Adam Smith: (202) 225-8901 Here are some talking points to help you, but the more personalized, the better. - I ask you to guarantee all Yemen amendments remain in the defense spending bill to stop American weapons & our military being used in this cruel war. - Saudi Arabia has been blacklisted by the UN for 3 years in a row for killing children in conflict. If they won’t use our weapons responsibly then we shouldn’t be selling them any. - There is a stalemate in Yemen -- more military support won’t end the conflict. The only way forward is a negotiated solution. Tip: be friendly and polite, but don't back down. Congress office hours are 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. Email yemen@avaaz.org to let us know how your call went. It seems crazy that a year has passed since the school bus in Yemen was bombed. Many of us will remember the shock after hearing the news -- the anger at how our government is complicit in child slaughter. And a year on, the bombs are still killing Yemen's children. We’ve campaigned on this issue many times before -- let’s do it again until we finally see an end to this awful war.
