It's the end of July, everyone is busy partying and the summer is hotter than Stifler's mom, yet here I am, still nerding out about SEO. I might not put the dancefloor on fire tonight but give an Ahrefs account, and I'll get that party started... kind of. Γ And to start this (email) party, I wanted to answer a common worry newer followers of ours have: Can I still start a successful site in 2023? Do I even stand a chance?
But in typical newsletter fashion, I'm not going to bore you to death with cheesy (hmmm, I love cheese..) rhetoric. I want to SHOW you sites that started roughly a 1 to 3 years ago and how they're doing now. Make sure you check the last one, it's a really interesting... situation π¬.
1. Carnivore Style (.com)
This site was put live in early 2020 and has steadily climbed the rankings. And today, it's sitting at... 196k organic traffic, according to Ahrefs, so it's probably a tad higher. Γ Not bad for a hobbyist site blogging about what you're doing in your garden all summer. Just in ad revenue, if I look at our own sites in similar niches, that site can probably get around $6,000 - $8,000 per month using Adthrive or Mediavine. On top of that, they also rank for juicy affiliate keywords. For example, they're #3 for "smoker grill combo", a 2,800 searches per month high buying intent keyword. And when the top product recommendation costs $549, those are juicy commissions. So I wouldn't be surprised to see that site pull a healthy mid 5-figure amount per month just a few years after being started. 2. Gardening Chores (.com)
Let me introduce you to Gardening Chores. That site was started at the beginning of 2021 and now sites at 245k+ monthly traffic, according to Ahrefs. The site is primarily monetized with ads that probably make the owner $25-30 per thousand visitors. So if we estimate that they get maybe 350k visitors (Ahrefs always under estimates), that's perhaps $10,000 per month from ads. On top of that, I really that they are also building an email list inside their content, which easily lets them promote products or sell sponsorship that can go for a lot of money. All in all, I wouldn't be surprised if that 2-year-old site was smashing the 5 figures per month revenue. Not bad π 3. Golfer Geek (.com)
Last but not least, Golfergeek is an interesting example because it's basically modeled EXACTLY after a site we've built to teach students in The Authority Site System π. We don't really recommend to copy one of our case study sites but at least, Golfer geeks is proof that what we're teaching works π€·Γ’ΒΒΓ’ΒΒΓ―ΒΈΒ. The site did take some time to lift off but is now sitting at an impressive 167k traffic according to Ahrefs And while I'm sure you've seen sites with more traffic, let me tell you, Jamie's traffic is probably better. Because MOST of his top pages are extremely high commercial intent and sell golf clubs & accessories that cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. I went to the top recommended irons for mid-handicappers on his top page, and they were selling for $962 with a 5% commission. That's... $48 PER SALE for Jamie. So I wouldn't be surprised if this hobby site easily hit the high 5-figure range per month in affiliate commissions and changed Jamie's personal life. What does this all mean?
Look, there's no denying that there is more competition today than there ever was in this market. There are also significant changes going through with Google right now. The 3 examples I shared with you today show that it's STILL very realistic to build a site from scratch and have it earn job replacement income or a lot more within a few years. You just need to be a little smarter with your decisions than you needed to be before. And because I know, many of you are looking to make that leap with the crawling inflation and stagnant salaries. We just finished filming a FRESH bonus for our flagship training, The Authority Site System, a few days ago, and it should be ready in about 2 days. On top of that, we are offering the training for $599 for ONE LAST TIME before permamently increasing its minimum price due to the numerous updates we've done this year.
So watch out for my email on Sunday, and for now, enjoy the summer tonight πΊ. I'll see you after your weekend hangover π
