[View this email in your browser]( Friends and Family - Today, the Republicans on Supreme Court of the United States has declared that the body, mind and choices of Women do not Matter. They have taken the rights AWAY from more than half of our national population. I am angry. I am angry for women who choose to bear or not bear a child and for families. By overturning Roe v Wade, the 1973 ruling that abortion is legal, and its affirming case, Planned Parenthood v Casey in 1992, the Supreme Court has determined that women do not have autonomy to make a choice that impacts every aspect of their life. Republicans are saying that they believe that they are God and that their right leaning state agenda is smarter than you. This appalling decision is telling half of our population that their value is not in their very personhood, and that their very independence can be dictated and controlled by Republicans. This latest injustice to humanity, a day after making it easier to carry a concealed gun than decide what to do with your own body, is saying to women that you are not safe in states across the land, where 13 of them have automatic trigger ban laws that will go into effect in the next 30 days. Women will die from this brutality. This is just a fact. Women die in childbirth. Women die from ectopic pregnancies. Women die from a lack of health care. Pregnancy is not consistently easy or safe, and in the United States our maternal mortality rate is among the highest in industrialized nations. This fact is heightened for Black and Brown women and for poor women. We cannot overlook the reality that rich women will still be able to access abortion care. It is why we support causes such as [Birthqueen]( [The Partnership for Women & Families]( [NARAL Pro-Choice America,]( and of course [Planned Parenthood](. We must remember this cannot be called a “pro-life” measure, in a nation where we do not offer the support needed to successfully raise families. We all want better lives so let us stop the Republican talking point. You cannot take away the ability to plan your reproduction without also putting into place safe sex education, affordable and easily accessible or universal health care, fully funded childcare and accessible, high-quality education, and national paid family leave policies. It just doesn’t work. This is also not just a woman’s issue. This is a family issue - women don’t magically become pregnant on their own. This is an economic issue. This is a mental health issue. This is a physical safety issue. This is a race issue. This is a gender identity issue. This is a class issue. This is a religious freedom issue. This is an empathy issue. This is a basic human right issue. This impacts every single one of us and we need compassion from every single one of us. Right now, I’m so angry I cannot even predict all the unintended consequences this will have. This is something our law makers frequently overlook when issuing edicts with far-reaching impact. I’m afraid of what this means for people who can become pregnant. I’m afraid of what this means for family planning. I’m afraid of what other rights can be taken away by this or future Courts. And you should be too. Michel Blake [Twitter]( [Facebook]( [Website]( [Email](mailto:hello@atlassstrategy.group) [Instagram]( Copyright © 2022 Atlas Strategy Group, All rights reserved.
