Support our Students [View this email in your browser]( Friends and Family - Your block should not block your blessing, and higher education is a path to getting to that place we all want to see for ourselves. We seek to do right by our family and our community, and for many, an education is key to doing this. In New York City alone, we have several great options for college, including Monroe College here in The Bronx, where I teach. I want to let you know that right now, Congress is debating the Build Back Better agenda, which has a great impact on lower-income students trying to get ahead. The [Pell Grant]( is a grant that offers funding to students based on income and provided to students in need of aid. Importantly, Pell Grants do not become debt that has to be repaid. As of now, Congress is considering DENYING PELL GRANTS to students at Proprietary Colleges, which is absolutely UNFAIR. There are a few back actors (Trump University), but these very few should not mean that students at the overwhelming majority of these schools are hurt. Paying for an education is a burden for so many, and Pell Grants are a way to make this just a little bit easier. It doesn’t make sense to put in place something that would block our hard-working students from getting ahead. Join me in contacting your member of Congress to let them know that Pell Grants are needed by all low-income students. Tell them how the Pell Grant has impacted your education. Tell them we need to believe to achieve, and this makes it just a little bit easier to believe that education is attainable.
