Sky-gazing in Iceland, shark-chasing in South Africa, mezcal-tasting in Oaxaca… [View this email in your browser]( Atlas Obscura stories, places, and people inspire every trip we offer. And when we’re looking for ways to delve deeper into a destination or the theme at the center of a trip, we love to check out what our colleagues at [Atlas Obscura Courses]( are up to. When we wanted to breathe new life into a classic African wildlife safari, we turned to AO course instructor Melissa Cristina Márquez, a marine biologist who pushed us to really explore the incredible ecosystems off the [South African coast](. The result is a trip where you’re not only going on game drives across the savannahs around Kruger National Park, but also seeking out Great White Sharks, Southern Right Whales, Bottlenose Dolphins, Cape Fur Seals, and African penguins with Melissa as your guide. Our course on the Aurora Borealis taught us that we’re currently at the height of an 11-year solar cycle, when the Northern Lights are at their most active. What better time than this year to go chase the Northern Lights on our [winter trip to Iceland]( For our [culinary trip to Oaxaca]( our course on writing a food memoir got us thinking about the connection between food and storytelling. On the trip, you’re not only tasting incredible dishes in some of the region’s best restaurants and kitchens, but learning the personal stories of the people behind them. We’re voracious, lifelong learners here, and there’s no better way to learn about the world than to get out and explore it. So where to next? Stay Curious, The AO Adventures Team Wild South Africa The trip: Spot lions, leopards, elephants, and more on game drives across stunning savannahs, and discover the wildlife of the South African coast in the company of marine biologist Melissa Cristina Márquez.
