Ardha Kumbha: A wonderful combination of devotion and trust Every 12 years when important planets come together ina unique astrological combination, Mahakumbh festival is organised in Haridwar,Ujjain,Nasik and Prayagraj (Allahabad). Similarly every 6years when there is another astrological combination of planets in Haridwar and Prayag Ardha Kumbha is organised. This year Ardha Kumbha is being organised at Prayagraj (Allahabad).It is believed Snan(bathing),donation and chanting done during this festival at these places of worship has a lot of significance. As per scriptures there is nothing more pure and sin cleansing than the festival of Magha Snan. Why is Kumbha Celebrated? According to the legends,after the Amrita-Man-than,there was a struggle between the Devas and the Danavas in which the Devas were able to claim the Amrita. The Devas Brihaspati,Surya & Chandrama played a special role in the protection of the Amrita Kumbha(vessel). Chandrama protected the Kumbha from falling,Surya from breaking and Brihaspati protected it from the Asuras. That's why Kumbha is celebrated during special combinations between Sun,Moon and Jupiter,the three planets that signify these Devas. Important Snan dates Magha Krishna Ekadashi(31 January 2019)is going to be a special date for Ardha Kumbha Snan. Gandamool Timings It is said that any auspicious task should not be done during Gandamool. Gandamool starts on Wednesday 30 January at 16:40hours and will end on Friday 1st February at 21:07hours. Highlights this week Shat-tila Ekadashi(31 January 2019) The Ekadashi in the Krishna Paksha of Magha month is known as Shat-tila Ekadashi.This year it'll be celebrated on the 31st January 2019. Til( sesame seeds ) become very important on this Ekadashi.Bathing with Til,using Til as a body paste,Havan using Til,donating Til, and using Til in food, all of these are considered auspicious. It is said that keeping a fast on the Shat-tila Ekadashi destroys all sins and donating Til on this day has the same fruits like doing an Ashvamedha Yaina. Shani Pradosh Vrat(2February2019) The Trayodashi(13th)tithi of Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha in every Lunar month is signified as Pradosh Vrat(Pradosh Fast). Whenever the Pradosh Vrat falls on a Saturday, it's called Shani Pradosh Vrat and becomes even more important. The time of 2hours and 24minutes after the Sunset is called Pradosh Kal. Usually the period between the Sunset and the onset of the night can be considered Pradosh Kal. Mahadev Shiva is worshipped during the Pradosh vrat.Keeping this fast is said to bless the family with happiness and progeny.Keeping this fast on a Saturday reduces the negative impacts of Sadesati and Dhaiyya transits. Venus transit into Sagittarius (29January 2019) Venus will enter the Sagittarius moonsign on 29th January 2019 at 11:27 PM.This will bring it in the same sign as Saturn.
