{NAME} -- We wrote to you yesterday about our efforts to support Democratic candidates in places that have enacted voter suppression laws. We've got some good news: We're over halfway to our goal! We need to keep pushing, though. Republicans are so focused on rigging elections that a flood of at least 389 state-level bills designed to restrict voters' access to the ballot box have been introduced. Of those, 22 are now law, with dozens more working their way through the legislative process. Democratic leaders in Washington are working hard to pass sweeping federal reforms like the For the People Act to hold back the GOP's attacks on voters of color. And what do Republicans think of this? Anti-democratic GOP Senator Mike Lee recently said the For the People Voting Act was “written in hell by the devil himself.” That's the Republican take on a bill that would expand voting rights, limit dark money in politics, and stop partisan gerrymandering. But it's clear to us why Lee and his GOP allies are so opposed to fair elections. Republicans will not stop until they secure their grasp on power by choosing their preferred electorate, rather than the electorate choosing them. {NAME}, that's why we're raising the resources necessary to elect progressive Democrats who will defend our democracy and protect the voting rights of Americans, especially people of color. [We're more than halfway to our $8,000 goal, and we need to hit that mark by midnight tomorrow. If just a few people who read this donate just $5 or $10, we will smash our goal and help defeat anti-democratic Republicans in 2022.
