We cannot let this decision end choice

We knew this was likely, but it doesn’t make this decision any less devastating to supporters of reproductive freedom, especially those in states with abortion bans ready to become law. This is a dark day for the court and our country. The ultra-conservative majority on the Supreme Court have decided to overturn the longstanding precedent established in Roe v. Wade, upending Constitutional liberties and putting lives at risk across the United States. We must answer this reckless decision with action, with protest, at the ballot box, in every state, and in every chamber of power. Maryland must remain a safe haven for all seeking abortion services, and we need to ensure that reproductive health care is accessible to all who need it. We must codify the protections of Roe v. Wade into our state Constitution and, with the expected rise in out-of-state patients, continue bolstering our health infrastructure as well as broadening the pool of professionals ready to provide this essential health care. As this fundamental right is turned over to each state, it is important now more than ever to elect pro-choice officials at the state level and support pro-choice organizations like Planned Parenthood.
