How This Full Moon Affects your Moon Sign | Current Transits | How to Make Moon Pie! On November 8

How This Full Moon Affects your Moon Sign | Current Transits | How to Make Moon Pie! [View this email in your browser]( On November 8, the Taurus Full Moon will experience a total eclipse, deepening the quest for fidelity and harmony that opened under the previous eclipse (October 25). We are invited to dance with our vulnerability and to communicate our expectations of others in a reevaluation of old or karmic friendships and connections. This full moon is definitely not all bad news, but our emotional entanglements with desired outcomes, people and places may make it hard to receive new information. We may wish to tend to our emotions first so we can see things more clearly and objectively. The time is right to make adjustments and to choose growth, maturation, and new attitudes about responsibility and caregiving. The Sun-Mercury cazimi within this eclipse suggests some immediate knowledge of its significance in our lives, but many of us will be left wanting to know more. In order to get through this month, we’ll need to be flexible and to adopt multiple perspectives, which may help uncover the truth so many of us will be obsessing over. This week, we have the planet of love and connection, Venus, opposing changemaker Uranus (exact date: November 5) and squaring taskmaster Saturn (exact date: November 6), which is partly responsible for some of the discomfort we may feel. Venus-Uranus indicates a desire for liberation, whereas Venus-Saturn yearns for a solid, dependable connection that often feels out of reach. Many of us will be striving to create new agreements or making foundational changes in our relational dynamics. Bringing an additional layer to the need for clear communication, the planet Mercury is in the middle of this mix, too. Many of us will be quite sensitive to criticism or feel rather emotional in discussing hot topics. And yet, real improvements can come through honest communication about issues that have been previously unspoken, and it will actually bring about a good deal of relief over time. Finally, Mercury’s communications prowess is joined with Venus’s desire for grace all the way to mid-December. The definition or usefulness of harmonious communication and diplomacy will be something we all get to sort through, particularly with wrathful Mars moving retrograde through Mercury’s sign of Gemini until mid-January. On November 8, at 3:02 a.m. US/Pacific, while the Sun in Scorpio opposes the Moon in Taurus, the Earth’s shadow will slip between them and create a total lunar eclipse that will be visible in the Americas, Asia, and Australia. The Earth’s shadow produces the blood moon’s reddish color, much like a sunset, which will last roughly from 10:00 p.m. US/Pacific on November 7 to 4:00 a.m. US/Pacific on November 8. This eclipse follows the earlier solar eclipse in Scorpio on October 25, deepening our quest for fidelity and harmony, and inviting us to dance with our own vulnerability. Eclipses are known both to reveal and to conceal. This one will have us looking for the silver linings in the various truths we are confronted with over the next six months while these eclipses play out. For a lot of us, what we discover is not truly unpleasant, but it may still feel that way. The Taurus Moon represents our desire for stability and for enjoying the simple, sweet things in life. But it is exactly conjoined with the electrifying jolt of Uranus, a planet that brings surprises, sudden endings and beginnings, and has a generally erratic nature. This can symbolize relief from a situation that has grown burdensome or that provides an unhealthy kind of comfort, as much as it can symbolize the disruption of a more desirable stability. The Scorpio Sun casting light on the Moon suggests that we will discover how deeply rooted our emotional attachments to people, places, and outcomes are. So many of us will want to resist the information that is coming in, and to wish it away. It will be important to care for and attend to emotional entanglements that distort our understanding—and take some kind of distance when required. The distance or objectivity that may help us integrate the information, events and experiences signified by the eclipse is indicated by the cosmic timekeeper, Saturn. He is swinging his scythe through Aquarius and making a stressful T-square aspect with this lunar eclipse, indicating that however challenging the circumstances, it is the right time to make adjustments. We may find ourselves choosing growth, maturation, and new attitudes about responsibility and caregiving. Even extremely positive life events carry a lot of stress—getting a new job, a better boss, a new romantic relationship, moving to a nicer home, adopting better health routines, etc.—and any significant changes are naturally accompanied by tension and strain. Even then, the “bad news” some of us get under this weather will actually be REALLY good news that we don’t have room in our hearts to take in (yet). A process of unraveling a lifetime (maybe lifetimes!) of habituation to circumstances may be involved to allow a breath of fresh air, a new freedom that will allow us to take up different attitudes, responsibilities, and duties. We can also make new karma and break patterns of stuckness or repetition. The 14th century Persian poet Hafez evokes this eclipse in this poem: The small man Builds cages for everyone He knows. While the sage, Who has to duck his head When the moon is low, Keeps dropping keys all night long For the Beautiful Rowdy Prisoners. Hafez’s keys could represent information trickling in to free us. But while the Sun-Mercury cazimi—Mercury in the heart of the Sun—on the day of the eclipse does suggest some immediate knowledge of the significance of this eclipse in our lives, so many of us will be left wanting to know more. A literal house of mirrors will be rolling out for some of us, presenting confusing and conflicting stories and ideas. Still others will want to shut out the clamor in an attempt to stay safe, filtering out not only the distracting noise but also the useful information that could help us find the safety we’re desperately seeking. If we summon the patience (and the support we need) to allow ourselves to continue gathering information, looking from multiple angles and staying curious, we’ll eventually get to the bottom of any mystery, controversy or confusion. We’ll also understand how to move forward in a better way than we ever could have before. This week, we have the planet of love and connection, Venus, opposing changemaker Uranus (exact date: November 5) and squaring taskmaster Saturn (exact date: November 6), which is partly responsible for some of the discomfort we may feel. Venus already has a hard time in Scorpio, where she will be until November 15, due to the depth of intimacy (and therefore risk) she indicates. Our soft underbellies may feel quite exposed, and we can experience betrayal (both real and imagined) from people we trust with our vulnerabilities. We may also feel defensive about expressing our needs. Venus-Uranus indicates a desire for liberation, whereas Venus-Saturn yearns for a solid, dependable connection that often feels out of reach. We may be making adjustments to old or deeply karmic friendships, creating new agreements or making foundational changes in our relational dynamics. The desire here is to find more appropriate relationships, restating our boundaries and ensuring that our trust is mutual and can sustain the connection. Communicating our expectations of others makes success a possibility. While this can feel scary and vulnerable, it is essential. Bringing an additional layer to the need for communication, Mercury, the planet of words and ideas, is also opposing electric Uranus (exact date: November 8) and squaring discerning Saturn (exact: November 9). Our thoughts may surge from one polarity to the other, swinging from hope and optimism to despair and cynicism. Those of us with meditation practices may find it a challenging week to observe our thoughts due to restlessness and distraction. But, one of Hafez’s keys may drop through our mind’s cage and tinkle on the floor at our feet. With enough persistence, we can also receive new insights and get a new grasp on old habits of mind. Another possibility of this influence is feeling the sting of criticism, and being more sensitive to the exposé of hidden truths. Whether we are compelled to speak up about something that carries an emotional charge, or we are the focus of an exposé, it isn’t likely to be a feel-good experience. But real improvements can come through honest communication about issues that were previously unspoken, and it will actually bring a good deal of relief over time. Sometimes, we just have to yank the bandage off the wound to allow sunlight (our conscious awareness) to finish the job of healing. Conciliatory or smooth communications are typically a feature of Mercury conjunct Venus (exact date: November 21), though other features of the sky story make it a little more complicated. We may experience disagreements about whether we can make peace with the other side of a dispute, or if we should be more confrontational or aggressive in attempting to reconcile. The definition or usefulness of harmonious communication and diplomacy will be something we all get to sort through, particularly with wrathful Mars moving retrograde through Mercury’s sign of Gemini. We may also be moved toward an exploration of the arts, particularly those involving the voice or the power of words, an especially creative manifestation of this longer term influence, which runs all the way through early December. The Moon represents who we are before we even think about who we are.
