Wealth Daily editor Brit Ryle talks the eclipse, data tracking, and the problem with fast-casual din

Wealth Daily editor Brit Ryle talks the eclipse, data tracking, and the problem with fast-casual dining establishments. [Wealth Daily logo] It's the End of the World!! [Briton Ryle Photo] By [Briton Ryle]( Written Monday, August 21, 2017 Ancient cultures have a variety of myths to explain a solar eclipse, but none have much to do with the end of the world. Vikings said it was sky wolves who wanted to eat the sun and the moon. Instead of wolves, the Koreans envisioned fire dogs that were sent by a dark power to eat the sun and moon. But the sun was too hot and the moon too cold. The Vietnamese said the sun was being eaten by a giant frog. The Batammaliba people of West Africa say the sun and moon are fighting. They say the only way to stop the fight is for the people to resolve their conflicts. Seems an appropriate message these days.... Anyway. With any luck at all, as you're reading today's Wealth Daily, I'll be arriving at my aunt and uncle's house in Charleston, South Carolina. Yeah, I got a wild hair and decided that an eight-hour road trip with my kids and girlfriend to watch the eclipse from ground zero was a good idea. Maybe it was the Tito's. Pray for me. Please. I know Charleston will be packed. My cousin who lives on James Island told me that some hotels have been booked for a year. I doubt we will make it downtown. In fact, I'm thinking we will have to settle for getting our eyes burned out while sitting on the beach on Isle of Palms. There are worse ways to go... My aunt and uncle live in Mount Pleasant now. But up until I was 25 or so, they lived on Isle of Palms. In fact, they were among the last full-time residents there. We visited every summer. I remember when the northern half the island was wilderness, long before the Wild Dunes community was built. I learned to surf on Isle of Palms. We would find live sand dollars in chest-high water at low tide. Of course we put them back. We visited in the wake of Hurricane Hugo. My aunt and uncle were staying on Kiawah. The drawbridge to Isle of Palms was destroyed. The National Guard had put up a temporary bridge, and you had to have proof of residence to get on the island. It was devastated. I'll never forget walking around with my aunt, seeing some of her friends' homes that had been reduced to rubble: a concrete slab with a chimney, family pictures scattered among the wreckage. It's been 10 years since I've been to Isle of Palms. Last time I went, it wasn't the funky beach it once was. Multimillion-dollar vacation homes now dominate. Still, I love that beach, and I can't wait to spend a little time there, enjoy it with my children. Apple’s Secret Income Stream Apple’s stock recently hit new highs... and is pretty pricey around $150 per share. However, if you know how to tap into the company’s secret income stream, you could actually bank up to $4,898 per month. You don’t have to own Apple stock, either. The best part is, you can get started for just a few hundred bucks. [Here’s how to get started right away.]( Public Service Announcement So, my uncle is a class-action lawyer in Charleston. He made his bones on the Dalkon Shield case back in the ’70s, I guess it was. My cousin is a partner in the current firm. While we were all vacationing together on Amelia Island a month ago, they told me an interesting story about AMC Theaters. It seems the firm was kicking around the idea of going after AMC Theaters. I had no idea, but apparently if you buy a ticket online and then let them scan the SKU on your phone, they are doing a lot more than simply scanning the ticket. Apparently they take everything off your phone: browsing history, passwords, pictures, banking info. Everything. In fact, my uncle says he suspects they swipe your phone even if you don't use it to enter the theater. He believes that if you walk through the turnstile with your phone on, they are taking your data. I didn't think to ask how he discovered this. And I have done numerous online searches, and I haven't found anything about it. He did tell me his firm is not likely to pursue any action because they don't know how to calculate damages. This is a prime example of how technology is moving much faster than our ability to understand it and regulate it. Yeah, I know, "regulation" is a four-letter word for many people. But do you really want Facebook and Apple and AMC Theaters to have unfettered access to what you view online? Where you go? What you spend money on? I don't. I logged off of Facebook a year ago and haven't been back because I don't like the terms of service. I don't like the fact that if I stay logged into Facebook, they track every click, every website I visit (like Brony.com), everything I do online. I guess I'm just paranoid... [Fox News Announcement to Ignite Tiny Stock]( On November 1, a CEO will appear on Fox Business to announce a major technology rollout. One that will turn his very tiny company into a household name. Right now, it trades for a mere 50 cents per share... and almost nobody knows about it. But on that day, everything will change, sparking a 10,000% surge in trading volume within minutes and hours. By year’s end, its shares could surge past $50... and that estimate is conservative. You just need to take action now. [Click here for the full story.]( The Death of Fast Casual? One more thing: a couple weeks ago, I told you that my Real Income Trader subscribers were buying put options on Chipotle after another round of food poisoning occurred. The stock was up around $350 or so at the time. Well, on Friday, Chipotle hit an intra-day low at $311. Yeah, we took our profits, around 75%. This was actually our second downside trade on Chipotle. We took around 80% the first time. And I suspect we will be [back for another one]( pretty soon. You see, as bad as the food poisoning thing has hit Chipotle, there's a worrying trend affecting all the fast-casual restaurants. A couple years ago, the fast-casual model was all the rage. The number of these restaurants has skyrocketed. So while total restaurant sales are expected to make their eighth consecutive annual gains, individual chains are seeing same-store sales (SSS) decline. There are too many restaurants chasing too few dollars. Besides that, Chipotle shares are expensive. The forward P/E is still 28, even after the recent declines. And earnings estimates are still being revised lower. One analyst lowered his price target to $283 last week, about 10% below current prices. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if it fell further than that. Chipotle should report third-quarter earnings toward the end of October. I find it hard to imagine they will be very good. But don't forget, it's always about expectations. If the shares have been crushed between now and then, maybe there's a chance for an upside surprise. More likely, there will be some optimism ahead of third-quarter earnings. That's when things get ugly.
