As heir to Inca wisdom, he comes from a culture rich in customs and traditions that passed down from generation to generation celebrate Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the Apus (Sacred Mountains). Ruben graduated from San Antonio Abad National University of Cusco with a degree in Hospitality and Tourism. Ruben leads Espirtuandino.org as a spiritual teacher and wisdom keeper - sharing the Q’eros 500-year-old ancestral knowledge and traditions transmitted to him through Inca spiritual technologies embedded within ancestral weavings and rituals. Traditional Medicine in South Africa [clip_image002]Almost two decades ago, instructions from the ancestors have led traditional healer Dr. Cebisa Ephraim Mabena of Mamelodi, Tshwane South Africa, to turn the Magalies mountain, where killers left bodies and people dumped rubbish - into a heritage site for African Indigenous Knowledge. “Through this mountain, we promote indigenous knowledge system. This mountain is a God-given gift and we should protect all the species, the flora and fauna. We need to protect the plants and animals. Indigenous healing plants such as ummilo, the fruit from which is used for colds and umdladlathi, which has anti-inflammatory properties grow here,” says Dr. Mabena. Traditional healers have been instructed by ancestors and mentors to recognize the medicinal value of plants in their healing. According to him, traditional health practitioners are environmentalists, geologists and indigenous knowledge holders and are thus very important in conserving the environment. It is in the ecosystem that they find the power to heal – even the African Dung Beetle has returned to this site where proteas and Mopani trees now grow in abundance. In an Interview and panel discussion Dr. Mabena will discuss the historical background of traditional healers in South Africa and the medicinal value of the plants.
