Thank goodness. I’m tired of winter and ready to prep for warmer, brighter, longer days—at least here in New England, where it’s been chilly and gloomy and damp for months and months and months. Spring inspires me to get all my [kitchen gear]( in order and [make everything feel like new again](. In recipes I’ll start to transition away from stews and roasts and braises—all those heartier, heavier, warming foods—toward lighter, fresher fare. I’m scrubbing the inside of my [countertop oven]( and [microwave]( as well as my full-size oven; descaling the [coffee maker]( and [sharpening all my knives]( in preparation for chopping more spring vegetables. I’m [oiling my cutting boards]( and [mixing a batch of spoon butter]( to create a little “spa treatment” for my wooden tools such as spoons and knife handles. I will also be giving my kitchen floor an [extra-deep scrub]( getting into all of its corners (My house was built in 1909, and I just don’t know what they were thinking, designing so many crannies and nooks in every conceivable place. So cute, but wow, does it trap dirt and dust!). I’m also getting excited for superfresh local produce and checking on when farmer’s markets open for the season (soon, soon!).
