Sadly, the desire to bake bread at home seems to have waned. I think that bread-baking is incredibly rewarding, so Iâve rounded up a few recipes to inspire cooks to give homemade bread another shot. Theyâre great for the beginner baker too. Bread baking thrives in precision, and if you donât own a kitchen scale, nowâs the time to pick one up. [This all-purpose one]( will serve all your baking and cooking needs. For those that bake bread often, [this precision scale]( can accurately measure minute amounts of ingredients like salt or yeast. First upâa quick bread relies on chemical leaveners such as baking soda or baking powder for lofty ovenspring. Weâre now in March, so this [Irish Brown Soda Bread]( is a great recipe to start. It gets its wholesome texture from a combo of whole-wheat flour, wheat bran, and wheat germ, and is as perfect for dinner as it is for your morning toast. Donât forget to check out our ratings for [marmalade.]( Weâll continue with another rustic loaf, but this time a savory [Spicy Olive Bread]( thatâs baked in a [Dutch oven](. The breadâs infused with garlic, chili flakes, and lots of olives. Itâs a forgiving recipe for the beginning bakerâa little sugar in the dough ensures plenty of yeast activity, and if the doughâs too sticky to handle, just a tablespoon or two more of flour makes it manageable. This recipe uses a gel-like paste of flour and water that makes the dough easy to manipulate into its signature braid without adding lots of flour. The resulting bread rises tall, with a deep golden hue and impossibly plush crumb. Pillow-soft.
