Sous vide machines leapt from restaurants to home cooks. Instant Pot, with its cultish fans and grassroots marketing, led the pressure-cooking revival. But air fryers have had the most notable broad adoption. Almost every product in the frozen aisle has added air-fryer cooking instructions. We’ve never [updated a review]( more frequently than we have air fryers. [At industry trade shows this year]( the dominant trend was glass and see-through cooking chambers—manufacturers’ response to customers’ dual desires to avoid cooking in plastic and to monitor cooking progress. Whatever comes next, we’ll report on it. But what we really want is to help folks use the appliances they already have. I mostly subsist on tomato sandwiches in the summer, but sometimes I do have to cook. And this is when my air fryer shines. Little-to-no preheating and a smaller cooking chamber means my air fryer doesn’t heat up my kitchen as much. It’s also especially [easy to use]( and [clean]( so I can get back outside and enjoy the weather. While [chicken nuggets are great]( we’ve also written [several cookbooks]( that elevate the air-fryer experience to the gourmet. Sometimes a new cookbook or appliance helps inspire in the kitchen. As do the first chilly wafts of autumnal air, surely on their way. ’Til then, though, it’s tomato sandwiches and an occasional air-frying session for me.
