He doesn’t golf. He doesn’t grill. And he doesn’t like whiskey. Despite my protestations, he still gets gnarly mountain biking: flying over the handlebars occasionally and imploring anyone he sees upon his bloody return to not tell my mom. (My mother has wisely given up). My dad is impossible to shop for. If he wants it, he gets it. And I don’t know a brake pad from a gear shifter-thingy anyways. Food is how I connect with people. My dad eats what I call the beige diet. He’s vegan but doesn’t like vegetables, subsisting instead on hummus, nut butters, crackers, tofu, and brown rice. He was psyched about [the food processor]( he got a few years ago to whip up hummus and sunflower butter. Another win: [a good silicone spatula]( (one piece! no nooks to get moldy!) to scoop his creations efficiently. Despite having a small sandbox to play in, I have a great gift this year for my dad.
