Admittedly, I don’t live in an ideal part of the country for this mindset—New England winters are not kidding around. But when the days start getting ever-so-slightly longer and it’s finally time to take my Bean boots out of rotation, I am in full-on warm-weather mode (surprise April snowstorms be damned). A few years ago, I had a friend over for a celebratory spring-is-here dinner, and it has since become one of my favorite traditions. If I’m being completely honest, it’s not even that I like spring that much. I grew up in upstate New York, where spring really just meant a whole lot of slush and mud as a brief interlude to summer. But there’s something really special about celebrating the change of the season—especially with food.
