FROM Bridget Lancaster, Executive Editorial Director Well, itâs Christmas Eve again. Like many folks, Iâve always set out a plate of refreshments for Santa. The big man gets cookies, and I leave a few carrots for his dedicated transportation crew. Over the years, Iâve started leaving out additional fare for the hard-working Christmas Eve crew. As I explained to my boys, Santa really appreciates something more substantial after eating so many cookies. The boys are older now (and a little wiser), but the tradition lives on. In the past, Santa has dined on big bowls of beef stew or ham and split pea soup, chicken salad sandwiches, pan pizza, and more to help him get through this long night. This year, heâs getting an assortment of appetizers, and since Rudolph is in charge of guiding the sleigh, Iâm offering the man in red can a wee glass of tipple to keep him warm. Iâll put out a board of assorted cheese and fruit, and Iâll be sure to include slices of this hearty [Prosciutto Bread](. A big platter of these [saffron-scented albóndigas]( should stick to Santaâs ribs. Iâll be sure to set out a container so he can take the leftovers back home to Mrs. C. Itâs well-known that reindeer with full bellies fly higher and truer. And itâs also known that four out of five reindeer prefer to eat their carrot sticks alongside [fried brussels sprouts and a tasty dip](. Lastly, Iâll leave out some of this [Brandied Mulled Cider]( so that Santa can help himself. I know from personal experience that it has an almost magical ability to warm even the coldest elf right down to the tip of her toes! Have a very Merry Christmas and wonderful holiday season!
