Warning: U.S. Heat Wave With the recent record-breaking nationwide heat wave impacting more than 130 million people, we are reminded of the dangers that heat can have on human health. Climate scientists warn that these record temperatures will continue to be more common and intense. As you read this, we are shipping supplies to a health department in Nebraska to alleviate heat-related issues – thanks to people like you. No matter where extreme weather disasters strike, we are there, and together with our partners, even in the worst times, we can make health happen. Hurricane Beryl Response Continues [＂We are always thankful for our partnership with Americares and know that we could not do the work that we do and serve the uninsured patients of the Greater Houston area without their support.＂ – Adlia Ebeid, San José Clinic chief clinical officer]( Hurricane Beryl marked a historically early start to the Atlantic hurricane season and became the earliest Category 5 on record in the Atlantic Ocean. Thanks to you, Americares was able to respond immediately, shipping urgently needed medical supplies to a partner clinic directly impacted by the storm, which left millions without power. In Jamaica, Americares funds will help provide generators, deliver food and other critically needed items for the elderly, hire a community worker to share information about recovery services, and meet other urgent needs for over 3,500 residents. Delivering Emergency Hygiene Kits in El Salvador After days of heavy rain – with more storms in the forecast – lives have already been tragically lost from landslides, falling trees and collapsing buildings. Americares Emergency Response team in El Salvador responded immediately to deliver essential supplies, including 600 hygiene kits, to families who had fled to shelters for safety, and our work will continue in the uncertain days and weeks ahead.
