[View it in your browser]( [Center for American Progress]( InProgress from the Center for American Progress STATEMENT: Ruling Confirms Trump Is No Different Than Any American Accused of a Crime This week, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled that former President Donald Trump does not have immunity from being prosecuted for crimes he may have committed while in office. In response, [Devon Ombres]( senior director for Courts and Legal Policy at the Center for American Progress, [issued the following statement]( This ruling confirms that Donald Trump is no different than any other American accused of a crime—he must be held accountable and will have his day in court. The Supreme Court should let this ruling stand and avoid any further delay in prosecuting Trump for his actions relating to the Jan. 6 insurrection. If the justices do take up the case, they should do so on an expedited basis. No one is above the law—not even a former president. With several key cases heading to the U.S. Supreme Court this year—[including Trump v. Anderson, which will determine Trump’s eligibility for candidacy]( under the 14th Amendment—it’s critical that U.S. Supreme Court justices finally be held accountable to a binding and enforceable code of conduct. Join us in demanding SCOTUS accountability. But did you know estimates suggest that every single state in the country has at least 2,800 active lead service lines (LSLs)—[the pipes that carry water from the water main under the street to residences]( Luckily, the Biden administration recently made the largest-ever investment in clean drinking water in the United States. This $50 billion safe drinking water package, made possible by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), includes significant funds for identifying and replacing LSLs, benefiting the approximately 22 million people affected by active LSLs across every state. These federal investments are specifically geared toward disadvantaged communities, aiming to rectify historical health and environmental inequities. The investment not only prioritizes public health and protecting vulnerable children and families but also holds transformative potential for communities by creating jobs, improving economic security, and generating substantial health benefits. In fact, IIJA funds have already been used in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, two of the top 10 states with the most still-active LSLs. Our [new report]( and [fact sheet]( offer details on Pennsylvania and Wisconsin’s implementations, as well as lessons for how states can remove LSLs and protect community health.
