Thanks for staying connected with us! ‘Project 2025 Will Undermine America’s National Security’ [A Marine One helicopter flies behind a row of American flags on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.]( Photo credit: Getty Images In [Project 2025]( far-right extremists outline policies that would gut America’s 250-year-old system of checks and balances and direct the government to dismantle U.S. democracy. The authoritarian playbook also includes the far right’s vision for the “common defense” that would place the United States in direct confrontation with adversaries; damage trust and cohesion with its allies; and privilege unilateral militarism over a thoughtful, holistic, and adequately resourced national security strategy. In doing so, Project 2025’s proposals would fundamentally undermine our national and economic security, and ordinary Americans will pay the price. How exactly would the far right’s plan to “reorient the U.S. government’s posture toward friends and adversaries alike” make all Americans less safe? Project 2025’s national security policies would: - Gut agencies protecting Americans against foreign threats - Benefit U.S. adversaries - Place the United States in direct confrontation with China - Increase the risk of nuclear war - Fail to address climate security - Damage the United States’ ability to address global threats While the authors of Project 2025 claim that defending the nation is among their top priorities, the policies they propose would fundamentally undermine the U.S. government’s ability to do so—all while increasing the risk of conflict, instability, and crisis.
