Project 2025 would erode the right to breathe clean air and drink safe water [In this photo illustration, a drop of water falls from a tap]( Photo: Getty Images/Justin Sullivan Nine years ago, Aidan Branch was poisoned by lead through exposure to lead service lines that provided water to his family’s Milwaukeean home. Following his exposure, he was hospitalized twice and will continue to face lifelong health consequences. [Aidan’s story]( is only one example of the millions of American families who have been harmed by toxins in the [water]( they drink and the [air]( they breathe. Yet far-right extremists’ plan would make it easier for corporations to poison people. The Project 2025 playbook proposes reconsidering a major Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule, which would ultimately weaken existing protections from toxins such as lead, PFAS (or “forever chemicals”), and soot. This would erode the fundamental freedom every American should have to breathe clean air and drink safe water. Greater exposure to toxins would significantly increase the number of Americans suffering from asthma, cancer, heart disease, reproductive health issues, child development delays, and other health conditions. Project 2025 would also make it far more difficult for the EPA to protect Americans from toxin exposures by dismantling offices within the agency and by installing far-right, nonexpert loyalists who are beholden to big corporations as key decision-makers. [Learn More]( Setting the record straight: Vice President Kamala Harris and the U.S. border [General view of the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection ministerial meeting held in Guatemala City]( Photo: Getty Images/Edwin Bercian Vice President Harris has supported bipartisan border security solutions and has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to working with regional partners to address the root causes of irregular migration. On the other hand, anti-immigration MAGA extremists in Congress, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), have played politics with the issue of immigration—even making up a [nonexistent]( immigration role—but shown [little interest]( in actually fixing the broken immigration system. The Biden-Harris administration, working closely with partners across the Americas, has taken multiple steps to address the historic levels of irregular migration in the Western Hemisphere. These layered efforts to mitigate, manage, and order migration have, in recent months, led to fewer encounters between ports of entry at the U.S.-Mexico border [than there were in 2019]( during the comparable time period. Achieving sustainable order at the U.S.-Mexico border—something all Americans rightly expect—is possible only through working on migration at all points along the migratory chain that extends into Latin America and well beyond. Vice President Harris’ work and the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts in the region have set the United States up for precisely that kind of sustained order—but only if elected leaders turn away from [weaponizing]( immigration and work on real solutions. [READ More]( Protect Dreamers and provide a pathway to citizenship Creating legal pathways to citizenship is an essential part of strengthening our workforce. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) has served as a beacon of hope for undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children and call it home, allowing them to go to school and work without fear of deportation. Despite these benefits, DACA remains under relentless legal and political threat. And it currently faces its biggest challenge yet: a continuing legal battle over its existence as Republican attorneys general from several states sue the federal government seeking DACA’s end. If DACA recipients lose their protections, they could face widespread harm such as potential detention, deportation, and family separation. Tell Congress to protect DACA recipients and pass the bipartisan [American Dream and Promise Act]( now. [Add Your Name]( An update for student loan borrowers The Biden-Harris administration has delivered [$168 billion in debt relief to 4.8 million borrowers]( so far, but it doesn’t stop there. An upcoming round of relief, expected this fall, will target borrowers who struggled the most with their payments and who were poorly served by the higher education and student loan systems. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
