This authoritarian playbook could destroy America as we know it Problems viewing this email? [View it in your browser]( [Center for American Progress]( Spotlight Project 2025: Exposing the Far-Right Assault on America Dear Friend, In case you missed it, yesterday the Center for American Progress hosted elected officials, advocates, and policy experts to discuss how [Project 2025]( would dismantle American democracy by gutting our system of checks and balances and reverse decades of progress to grow the middle class and secure more rights and freedoms for all Americans. What is Project 2025? It is an extremist 900-page document meant to serve as a road map for a far-right presidential administration. While its policy proposals are sweeping and would affect nearly every facet of American life, its overarching goal is clear: to lay out an authoritarian playbook that would destroy the rights, freedoms, and protections that Americans have fought for—and won—over decades. The half-day event unpacked how a far-right extremist U.S. Supreme Court and stymied Congress could enable Project 2025’s pursuit to transform American democracy into autocracy with policy proposals for an administration that embraces plans to replace career civil servants with far-right loyalists; taking power from independent agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration and federal law enforcement and placing their authority in the sole hands of the presidency; and weaponizing the U.S. Department of Justice against political opponents. As lawmakers from states currently experiencing democratic backsliding and the impacts of radical far-right governance recounted, Project 2025 would undermine reproductive and civil rights, worsen education, threaten health care, and weaken workers' rights—disproportionately harming millions of women, families, and low-income communities.
