TODAY: Exposing the Far-Right Assault on America [Demonstrators raise their fists in a sign of solidarity in Denver on May 30, 2020.]( Photo credit: Getty/Jason Connolly As 2025 looms closer, itâs critical to unpack what the far rightâs roadmap, âProject 2025,â means for everyday Americans and how its policy proposals would affect everything from abortion rights to health care access to overtime pay and education. Join us today from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET for an event exploring the very specific and draconian ways in which the Project 2025 authoritarian playbook would destroy our system of checks and balances and give far-right politicians, judges, and corporations more control over Americansâ lives. [Join Us Today]( Expertsâincluding Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Maya Wiley, Mini Timmaraju, Liz Shuler, and othersâwill discuss how this radical policy agenda would target reproductive rights, labor, and civil rights, as well as how it would concentrate federal power in the presidency. The 6-3 right-wing majority on the Supreme Court engaged in an unprecedented power grab, laying the foundation for an antidemocratic and corporatist agenda to thrive. In a series of cases, they ruled that presidents are [immune from criminal liability]( for actions taken in office and that [both]( [public]( [agencies]( [and Congress]( have little authority to protect the American people from powerful, monied interests. Since the Supreme Court is now openly showing its disdain for American democracy, significant court and administrative law reform is paramount. [Learn More]( SCOTUS corruption must be stopped The antidemocratic decisions from the radical Supreme Court majority have come after a year of reporting on [ethics]( [scandals]( and [corruption]( including revelations about the [extremist views]( of Justice Samuel Alito and his wife regarding the January 6 insurrection. The only way to salvage our democracy is to reform the Supreme Court. We need term limits and a binding code of ethics to ensure justices are not subject to the corrupting influence of the billionaire class. [Rein in corrupt justices now]( A disastrous plan to ruin public transit From the commute to work to visits to the doctorâs office, millions of people rely on public transit every day. But Project 2025 lays out a plan to defund public transit, which would create longer and less reliable commutes. [People wait on a platform to board the subway ]( [Watch Now]( Underserved communities benefit from historic investment in electric vehicle battery and charger manufacturing [An electric vehicle charges at a charging station]( Since the passage of the Biden administrationâs Inflation Reduction Act in 2022, more than $45 billion has been invested in the domestic manufacturing of electric vehicle (EV) batteries, modules, and chargers. This historic investment has had a considerable impact in communities with high poverty rates. [The Center for American Progressâ recent analysis]( found that 78.5 percent of EV battery and charger investments occurred in communities with median household incomes below the national median income of $74,755. This effort has also resulted in [increased demand]( for EV industry labor and helped create more than 310,000 new clean energy jobs, a third of which have been placed in low-income communities nationwide. The significance of these provisions cannot be understated. Continuing to expand and invest in clean energy initiatives on this scale can help carry out the Biden administrationâs goal to support those in underserved communities, boost private domestic manufacturing, and foster an equitable transition to a 100 percent clean transportation sector. [Learn More]( Investing in Lansingâs future As mayor of Lansing, Michigan, Andy Schor has led his city through the lingering aftermath of the Great Recession and the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, thanks to investments from the Biden administration through the American Rescue Plan Act, bipartisan infrastructure law, and Inflation Reduction Act, he is witnessing Lansingâs revival as a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing. With the recent $2.5 billion investment in Ultium Cells, Lansing has secured a projected 1,700 union jobs and ensured its enduring legacy in the story of Americaâs automotive industry.
