Thanks for staying connected with us! 🚨 Padding Big Pharma’s profits at the expense of millions of Americans’ health care 🚨 [Empty pill bottles are scattered on the sidewalk during a protest against high prescription drug costs in front of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services building in Washington, D.C., on October 6, 2022. ]( Photo credit: Getty/Anna Moneymaker Over the past two years, the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has ushered in policies that have lowered the cost of prescription drugs for millions of older adults and other Medicare enrollees. Now, those historic, lifesaving policies are under threat from the far right. The threat: In Project 2025’s “[Mandate for Leadership: A Conservative Promise]( extremists are pushing to repeal the entire IRA to end Medicare drug price negotiation and to reinstate Big Pharma’s unrestricted power to set excessive drug prices. What this means: If the far right’s agenda is achieved, millions of Americans would lose their access to affordable medications and the power—and profits—would return to pharmaceutical companies. Learn how 18.5 million Medicare Part D enrollees could lose their much-needed out-of-pocket savings: [Learn More]( Read more on how the far right’s new authoritarian playbook could usher in a sweeping array of dangerous policies. [MorE about project 2025]( [ACT NOW] It’s time for permanent protections for Dreamers Tomorrow marks 12 years since President Barack Obama established Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). In the years since its creation, DACA has served as a beacon of hope for more than 835,000 undocumented immigrants who call the United States home. Despite the [numerous benefits]( it provides to the recipients, their communities, and the broader U.S. economy, the policy remains under threat. Several state attorneys general have [sued]( the federal government seeking DACA’s end. If Congress does not enact a clear path to citizenship, hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients will continue to live in a state of limbo, unable to fully contribute to and thrive in the country they call home. [tell congress to act]( STATEMENT: U.S. Supreme Court preserves access to medication abortion Yesterday, June 13, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that mifepristone, the drug that is part of a two-step regimen approved for medication abortion, will remain accessible. The justices ruled unanimously that anti-abortion plaintiffs lacked standing to challenge the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) actions and have reversed yet another extremist ruling from the far-right 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. In response, [Sabrina Talukder]( director of the Women’s Initiative at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement: Today’s ruling highlights what we have long known: Mifepristone is safe and effective. This case was another attempt by the anti-abortion movement to ban abortion care by any means necessary, even if it meant politicizing medicine and thwarting the independence of the FDA. As today’s ruling proves, medical experts, not justices, should be the ones making decisions about drug safety. Doctors, patients, and the FDA know that this drug is safe and effective, and any restrictions to mifepristone access would be a giant step backward for safe and effective reproductive care. [STATEMENT FROM JUNE 13, 2024]( Spread the word: A far-right attack on medication abortion failed We cannot let the politicization of the judiciary fuel the politicization of medicine.
