Make contraception access the law of the land Itâs been nearly 60 years since the U.S. Supreme Court laid the constitutional foundation that recognized the right to contraception, with tremendous gains to womenâs [educational attainment, workforce participation, and incomes]( in the decades since. But with the far-right Supreme Court majorityâs decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and with reproductive care [of all kinds]( under attack by anti-abortion extremists, we canât take the right to contraception for granted. The time to act is now. Tell your senators to pass the [Right to Contraception Act]( and make access to contraception the law of the land. But without the right protections, taking that time can mean losing a paycheck or a job, exacerbating already difficult circumstances and hindering that search for safety. But states and cities are working to fill this gap, adopting laws that provide safe leaveâa specific set of workplace leave rights in relation to violence. At least 20 states and Washington, D.C., have enacted safe leave policies through three key kinds of laws: paid sick and safe time laws, paid family and medical leave laws, and unpaid leave laws. [This report]( examines those laws, providing a better understanding of the landscape of existing protectionsâand the considerable progress that is still needed.
