Food and Drug Administration (FDA)](. This high-profile case threatens the availability of mifepristone, the first medicine in a two-step regimen used to end a pregnancy. Medication abortion is the [most common]( form of abortion care in the United States. Mifepristone, originally approved by the FDA in 2000, has always been [safe and effective](. The [meritless claims]( in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA are an attempt to undermine the FDA and put politics over science and safety. The court's decision in today's case has implications for the politicization of medicine overall—one that highlights the dangers posed by extremist judges who seem to be pursuing their ideological goals over the health and safety of everyday Americans. Thankfully, governors are responding to this crisis. A [CAP analysis]( of 2024 State of the State addresses finds that more than half of the nation’s governors highlighted child care and/or pre-K—28 of the 38 governors who had [given addresses]( as of February 22, 2024. Sixteen of these governors were Democrats and 12 were Republicans, showing clearly that early care and education is a bipartisan issue.
