I 'might as well be white'?

Dems hate to hear a Black conservative speak Token. That’s the Democrats’ favorite word for me. They hate to hear a Black conservative speak about what it means to live the American Dream, so all they see is the color of my skin. Since giving my speech at the Republican Convention, the attacks from the left have been nothing short of vicious.  Take Congressman Steve Cohen for instance.   When he thought no one was looking, he recently endorsed an idea spread on social media that I “might as well be White” because I’m a Republican.  This happened right after I spoke at the Republican National Convention. Representative Cohen also tweeted that the RNC catered to “the Trump base: white… and poorly educated.” Now look, I’m used to the comments and insults coming from haters on social media. But the casual -- if unintentional -- racism shown by my Democratic colleagues is becoming a new trend. Just a few weeks ago, Senator Dick Durbin called my police reform bill a “token” effort. Democrats can’t accept that Black men and women like me can think and vote for themselves. I’m a strong Black, conservative American fighting every day to make our country better and I’m not afraid to stand up for myself.
