What kind of nation would we live in if we couldn’t criticize politicians and elected leaders? ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ Friend, What kind of nation would we live in if we couldn’t criticize politicians and elected leaders? I’ll tell you. We’d live in a nation like the Soviet Union, communist China, or North Korea. One of the greatest freedoms that we as Americans enjoy is the freedom of speech, including the freedom to speak out against leaders and policies we disagree with – all fully protected by the First Amendment. But, as you know, the radical left is doing everything it can to trample those rights. Recently, a leftist district attorney in Massachusetts retaliated against her critic by filing a criminal complaint against him after he publicly questioned the district attorney’s incompetency. We’re fighting back with a massive new lawsuit – but we need your help urgently. [Which is why I’m asking you for an emergency, tax-deductible donation of $35 or more to the Center for American Liberty today as we prepare to wade into a legal war to defend the freedom of speech.]( You see, last year Joao DePina, a resident of Boston, Massachusetts, publicly questioned then-Suffolk County District Attorney Rachel Rollins about gun violence and the incompetence of her office to respond to his brother’s murder. Rollins openly mocked Joao and continued her press conference. But then, just three days later, Rollins caused a criminal complaint to be filed against Joao, accusing him of attorney intimidation. It was crystal clear to anyone looking at the complaint that the charges were a direct violation of Joao’s right to free speech and multiple District Attorneys refused to prosecute the case. However, the Worcester District Attorney decided to prosecute the case to fullest extent and sought a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for Joao. Thankfully, a judge ruled in favor of Joao’s motion to dismiss the case citing the clear and obvious First Amendment issues. But no punishment or consequences of any kind were given to Rollins or the Worcester County DA for this malicious prosecution of Joao. In fact, Rachel Rollins essentially got a promotion – she’s now a U.S. Attorney! That’s why we’re stepping in and suing Rollins and the Worcester DA for malicious prosecution, abuse of process, violation of Joao’s freedom of speech, and reckless infliction of emotional distress. But we can’t win without you. [Will you join this critical fight today with a gift of $35 or more right now?]( Because this behavior cannot go unchecked. How can we allow a prosecutor to try to send a citizen to prison just for speaking out against them? That’s the kind of thing that happens in China or North Korea. Not here. Not in our Constitutional Republic that was founded on the idea that no man or woman is above the law. If we cannot peacefully criticize public officials, then the First Amendment is truly dead. Imagine if Rollins and her cronies are allowed to get away with this. Where will this happen next? Your county? Your state? The federal government?! There must be limitations on the immunity afforded to prosecutors. With your support, we’re going to go to the mat fighting to save our Constitution. But we need your help immediately. [So please, make an urgent donation of $35 or more and help us stop the abuse of power being perpetrated by these leftists.]( Please don’t hesitate – the battle for your rights is heating up with each passing day. Thank you in advance four your support. Sincerely, P.S. Joao DePina was threatened with a DECADE behind bars just for standing up to a public official. You and I cannot allow bureaucrats and politicians to use their power to imprison political opponents. [Help us win our lawsuit with a donation of $35 or more right now.]( [Donate Now]( [CFAL logo]( The Center for American Liberty is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization created to fight against growing anti-free speech and anti-civil liberties trends.
