January 24, 2024 24/7 Helpline: [800.272.3900]( Blood test may be able to screen for Alzheimer’s disease Testing a person’s blood for a certain type of protein could be used to screen for Alzheimer’s, new study results suggest. Researchers found that in their study population, a test for the blood biomarker p-tau217 was as accurate as spinal fluid tests in identifying abnormal levels of beta-amyloid and tau, even in people without symptoms of the disease. While these results are encouraging, this test is currently only for use in research studies; it is not available in doctors' offices nor is it approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
