A ballooning portfolio isn't in the sky... [AlphaShark logo]( Hey Trader, Many Americans have been in full panic mode since the discovery of the Chinese “spy balloon” in early August… So much so, that in California local police stations asked citizens to stop calling 911 to report celestial bodies Jupiter and Venus, which were passing close by each other in what’s known as a conjunction (a beautiful sight, really). But no Americans were quite as nervous over the spy balloon discovery as investors in a small Northern California tech firm, AXT Inc. (NASDAQ: AXTI). You see, it turns out that AXT Inc. had sold electronics to the Chinese defense firm directly linked to the spy balloon program… Coincidence? Decide for yourself. But let’s think for a moment about how tight U.S. air security is in 2023… You can’t fly a hot air balloon above your house without authorization, let alone float a balloon equipped with sufficient spyware technology across half the country. Am I saying the U.S. was fully aware of the Chinese spy balloon and let it happen? No… But I will say that nothing this government does would surprise me. And I’m not even getting political here… You guys know I never do. All I really care about is the stock market. But since the discovery of this spy balloon in early February, AXTI stock has dropped over 33%. Good thing I never had any investments in AXTI, and I’m even less likely to do so now. Not because of their affiliation with the Chinese, I could care less… But because the market seems to have a negative outlook on them after all this news came out. And like I said, all I care about is making money in the market. And if the market is out on you, so am I. Plain and simple. I still trade Chinese tech companies like JD and BABA… In fact, we had triple digit winners in both of these stocks last week. But I trade these because they are solid stocks, and I’ve made money in both of them before. The point is, no matter what global policies or infractions are happening, my opinion of a company has to do with one ting and one thing only: Share Prices. I trade companies that I trust, and I avoid those I’m on the fence about. This technique hasn’t failed me in nearly 20 years, and I won’t let any political squabbles change that now. Watch the skies, people… The planets are an amazing sight. Til next time.
