[View this email online]( [logo algolia]( TIP OF THE MONTH Order of searchable attributes Did you know that the order of your searchable attributes list directly impacts your search relevance? Algolia, through its ranking formula, compares several records and ranks them appropriately each time a user is performing a search. This means that the engine compares the highest attributes in the list of searchable attributes first, and works its way down to the lowest in the list. Which attributes to put at the top of your list? To achieve the best ranking we recommend stacking the searchable attributes from most precise (i.e., less text but exact terms) to least precise. For example, "colors", "categories", "brand" will be positioned higher than "description" in the searchable attributes list. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, and the strategy depends on your use case, how data is being structured, what your users usually search for, what they expect as results, etc. Your Customer Success Manager can give you more detail. NEW FEATURE Query Rule Badges in Analytics We’ve just released the ability to view which queries in the Analytics Dashboard are affected by Query Rules. For instance, if you have a Query Rule affecting the search for ‘shampoo’, a badge will appear on that query in the Analytics view. Additionally, if you drill into the query from the “Searches” tab and hover over the badge, you’ll find a link directly to that Query Rule in the Dashboard. Don’t hesitate to ask your Customer Success Manager for more detail! BLOG We’ve expanded our infrastructure to the UK This January, we opened two new data centers in the UK. This is the 17th infrastructure region in our worldwide DSN (Distributed Search Network). We are excited to offer our UK customers reduced latency and an additional layer of insurance with data locality. More [on our blog]( DATA PRIVACY IMPROVEMENT Anonymize your end users IPs We recently made available for Enterprise customers the ability to anonymize the IP addresses of your search users. The feature removes part of your users’ IP addresses so it's no longer possible to identify the user behind a request. As a consequence, the remaining part of the IP address is no longer personally identifiable information (PII) anymore. The anonymization of the IP address is done only for search/browse requests, as identifying the IP address for write operations such as index deletion is required for auditability. This feature is not enabled by default as enabling it on implementations while not passing a userToken at query time would negatively impact the accuracy of your analytics data. If you’d like to benefit from this feature, please contact your Customer Success Manager. on demand webinar How to harness voice search in retail Missed our recent webinar? Worry not, we have it on demand. Algolia, Myplanet, and Harry Rosen, Canada’s defining label in luxury menswear, talk about how voice search can empower retail associates, increase order value and redefine the customer experience. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
