(Alex Brandon/The Associated Press) climate change Energy chief Rick Perry says it's 'inappropriate' to label climate change skeptics as Neanderthals By Tom Benning Energy Secretary Rick Perry continues to [question the extent to which humans are responsible for climate change](, saying that it's "inappropriate" to treat those who don't believe the science is settled as if they are Neanderthals during a Monday interview on CNBC. The consensus of the scientific community, including researchers at NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, is quite clear that man-made carbon dioxide emissions are the primary contributor to climate change in recent decades. Perry's statements are consistent with the skeptical view of climate change held by the Trump administration. President Donald Trump has called climate change a hoax perpetuated by the Chinese, and the White House has refused to offer a more nuanced take. Trump then made waves this month by withdrawing the U.S. from [the global climate deal]( known as the Paris accord. Meanwhile: The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Monday that it's unconstitutional for the federal government [to reject trademarks because they use offensive terms]( like racial slurs. Cardona A 25-year-old sailor from The Colony narrowly survived when the destroyer he was aboard [collided with a Philippine-flagged container ship]( over the weekend. Petty Officer Second Class Joshua Tapia was on the USS Fitzgerald when its sleeping quarters were rammed by the container ship.  The impact, which came about 2:30 a.m., jolted Tapia awake, and his living space flooded in less than a minute, WFAA reported. A 26-year-old Texan, Gunner's Mate 2nd Class Noe Hernandez, of Weslaco, was one of the seven killed in the collision. Hernandez was married and is also survived by a 2-year-old son. The hiring stems from [a community outcry over money spent on the home](, which totaled $694,500 and includes $300,500 for the home plus $394,000 for the 4.3 acres of land around it. Hull, the highest paid superintendent in the state, makes $360,795 annually. She pays $2,000 in monthly rent on the home.
