At Dallas rally, Nancy Pelosi has strong words for sanctuary cities lawÂ
Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday [blasted Texas' new sanctuary cities law](, calling it "an act of cowardice." The law was passed earlier this year by the Republican-controlled Legislature and signed by Gov. Greg Abbott.
The law seeks to curb so-called sanctuary cities by, among other things, allowing law enforcement officers to check to immigration status of residents.
Pelosi criticized Republican leaders in Texas for taking the state in the wrong direction and not embracing its diversity.

3 dead after bounty hunters confront armed man at Greenville car dealership, owner says
Bizarre details emerged Wednesday followed a shootout Tuesday evening at a Greenville auto dealership. [Two bounty hunters died in the shootout](, and the man they were looking for was also killed.
The shootings occurred about 7:15 p.m. at the Nissan of Greenville along Interstate 30 near Joe Ramsey Boulevard. Officers responding to calls about the gunshots found the three men dead, city officials said in a written statement.
The dealership's owner, Rick Ford, said the two bounty hunters had initially presented themselves as federal agents.
Police on Wednesday released video of the incident that shows two armed men cornering a third man in a glass office at the dealership.
Toyota dealership blaze: An arsonist [started a fire at a Toyota dealership]( in Far East Dallas early Wednesday that damaged or destroyed 14 cars, the fire department said.
Firefighter goes home: A Dallas firefighter-paramedic [has been released from the hospital]( less than a month after nearly being killed by a suicidal gunman in Old East Dallas.Â

Abbott signs Dallas Police and Fire Pension bill
Gov. Greg Abbott has signed into law the bill aimed at [saving the Dallas Police and Fire Pension System from financial insolvency](.
Abbott's signature was a foregone conclusion after both the House and Senate passed the bill unanimously. Without the bill's passage, the pension could have gone broke within the next decade.

CPS in Texas:Â Also on Wednesday, Abbott signed into law "landmark legislation"Â [he said would improve child protection in Texas](, which has been under fire for more than a year. Abbott also called on U.S. District Judge Janis Graham Jack to dismiss a class-action lawsuit against the state. In December 2015, Jack ruled that long-term foster care in Texas is "broken."Â
