Social media 'gang war' fuels spike in drive-by shootings, Dallas chief says
Dallas police are shuffling resources to combat a spike in drive-by shootings that the police chief blames on gang warfare, often fueled by social media.
[So far this year, 122 drive-by shootings have been reported](, compared with 49 during the same period last year, Interim Police Chief David Pughes told the City Council's public safety committee this week.Â
Despite the recent wave of violence, police officials say crime overall in the city is at a historic low. The past three years have had the lowest number of reported crimes since the 1960s.
Dallas woman sentenced to 26 years after killing fight onlooker
A Dallas woman who opened fire as her girlfriend sparred in a planned fistfight a year ago was sentenced Tuesday to [26 years in prison for killing a 23-year-old onlooker.](
Shundale Taylor, 25, was convicted Friday for the murder of Antoine Hodge on March 29, 2016.
Taylor said she was afraid and was protecting her girlfriend when she fired a revolver into a crowd of bystanders gathered to watch her girlfriend fight another woman in West Dallas.

Downtown Dallas is getting a new 45-story tower next to huge $70 million Fountain Place redo
One of downtown Dallas' most familiar towers is in the midst of a major makeover that will bring additional parking [and a new look to the Dallas skyline](.
Owners of the 60-story rocket-shaped Fountain Place are spending more than $70 million to overhaul the office building.
Meanwhile, another developer is breaking ground on a 45-story companion tower next door.
The rankings: D-FW ranks second nationally [for warehouse building and leasing](.
