How one homeless man is terrifying Oak Lawn, a neighborhood on edge
Dallas police say that Timothy Box is [a "nuisance," an aggressive panhandler](. Sgt. David Davis at the Northwest Patrol Division, which keeps watch over Oak Lawn, said two cops assigned to Cedar Springs for more than a decade "have encountered him for as long as they've been on the beat."
He has been there, on and off, for years. Arrested over and over; charged some two dozen times; incarcerated, too, often in state jail but occasionally in county lock-up or the city's drunk tank. His crimes, those to which he has pleaded guilty, have ranged from trespassing at the neighborhood Kroger and stealing vodka from an Oak Lawn Avenue liquor store to meth possession and spitting at a cop and threatening a couple with a broken bottle.
A longtime bar owner along Cedar Springs Road used to decorate his windows with the man's always-growing rap sheet. In the middle of a weekday afternoon, patrons at neighborhood bars can be overheard talking about him, cursing his name, sharing could-be tall tales about his doings, asking one another if "hey, you seen that S.O.B. lately?"

Rangers release Josh Hamilton after another injury
The career of Josh Hamilton appears to be at an end. On Friday the Texas Rangers released Hamilton, a five-time All-Star and former American League MVP. Hamilton, who was still rehabbing from left knee surgery, injured his right knee during his rehab. That knee also needs surgery.
Hamilton has not said that he will retire, [but as Evan Grant points out](, he is nearly 36 years old and has not had a major-league at-bat in two seasons.

As immigrant flows to the U.S. decline, home prices and worker pay are soaring. (Smiley N. Pool/The Dallas Morning News)
One reason for Dallas' soaring home prices and labor shortage: Immigrants aren't coming to work
For decades, Mexicans and other foreign-born workers have been coming to Texas to build homes, apartments and office towers. By one estimate, they fill almost half the construction jobs in the state, which is about twice as many as in the rest of the nation.
[But the flow of people has slowed significantly](, and itâs not just due to the anti-immigrant stance pushed by lawmakers and President Donald Trump. Mexicoâs economy recovered faster from the recession of 2008, so many Mexicans who had left during that downturn never came back. The demographics in Mexico also have changed, with more dual-earning households and fewer young people.

Friday went by without a verdict in the John Wiley Price bribery trial, as the federal jury deciding the case went home [after ending a third day of deliberation](. The jury will return Monday morning to resume the case. Pictured: Price leaves the Earle Cabell courthouse in downtown Dallas.
