(Tom Fox/The Dallas Morning News) American Airlines workers were targets of alleged $17 million hearing aid scam A federal grand jury indicted a Texas father and son duo this week in an alleged hearing aid scam [that targeted American Airlines workers]( and netted nearly $17 million. Terry Anderson, 66, and Rocky Anderson, 36, allegedly targeted American Airlines employees because their Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance plans at the time did not have a maximum limit on the cost of hearing aids and allowed subscribers to obtain new hearing aids annually. The indictment alleges that the pair conducted many exams in an employee break room at DFW International Airport and offered employees incentives to order hearing aids and refer friends. Unintentionally funny: At the opening night of the Tribeca Film Festival, one of the biggest laughs came not from the feature film, but from [a United Airlines commercial shown before the screening](. Greg Abbott declared a state hiring freeze in January. These jobs are designed to protect public safety through uncovering bad business practices, corruption, and incompetence, among other things. Abbott prohibited new hiring in an attempt, he said, to save Texas about $200 million in anticipation of a state budget shortfall. He allowed for some exceptions, including jobs with "a direct impact on public safety,'' and invited agency chiefs to request waivers to his order.
