He will join Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on CBS' top team. Romo started 127 games for the Cowboys over the last 11 seasons. Troy Aikman is the only quarterback in the franchise's rich history with more starts. Romo's run came to an unceremonious end this past season due to another back injury and the success the team enjoyed with Dak Prescott. And: Tony [Romo suffered a lot of injuries during his Cowboys career](, missing a total of 36 games since becoming the starter in the 2006 season. Here's a look at how the team fared without him. Also: Columnist Tim Cowlishaw explores [why Romo is right to retire]( amid Cowboys' game of "chicken." File/DMN Texas A&M Ring Plaza vandalized with message saying 'rape is inevitable' The Ring Plaza at Texas A&M University was [vandalized early Tuesday with a spray-painted message referencing rape](. The message was written near the Clayton W. Williams Jr. Alumni Center, said "Rape is inevitable may as well enjoy it — Clayton Williams," referencing a comment that Williams made when he was running for governor of Texas in 1990. Williams claimed he was joking when he compared cold weather to rape, saying, "If it's inevitable, just relax and enjoy it," according to The Associated Press. And: The parents of a slain man are asking Gov. Greg Abbott and Tarrant County prosecutors to [halt the scheduled execution of his murderer, Paul Storey, next week](. G.J. McCarthy/DMN Sheriff Valdez: Half of 911 dispatch jobs vacant because of low pay Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez told Dallas County Commissioners that[more than half of the county's 911 dispatcher positions are vacant](, a problem Valdez attributes to the pay. Dallas County pays its starting dispatchers $33,945 and salaries max out at $51,916. That range is lower than every other department in the Dallas-Fort Worth area besides Carrollton, according to the sheriff's department. To fill in the open slots in the meantime, Valdez's office relies heavily on overtime pay. That strategy, while costly, has kept response times fast, she said. Previously: Dallas [doesn't have enough people to adequately answer 911 calls](, Mayor Mike Rawlings acknowledged in March. Meanwhile: It's a real kick in the teeth as [Texas A&M takes the Elbow Room to make room for a dental college](, writes columnist Robert Wilonsky. Quick links Crime: Frisco homeowner with [no-soliciting sign shoots door-to-door salesman](, police say Opinion: [Don't ban texting while driving]( because of grief Business: UPS says it will [open new Arlington shipping hub]( with 1,400 jobs in 2018 Opinion: Democrats, we have to [confirm Gorsuch]( Pop-litics: [Chuck Norris is now a Texan](, because the state senate says so Courts: Defense [wants mistrial after prosecutors fail to turn over evidence](in John Wiley Price case Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor (12) celebrates with Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus after hitting a solo home run in the second inning against the Cleveland Indians on opening day at Globe Life Park in Arlington on Monday. Vernon Bryant/DMN Photo of the day While the full return on the investment — that's the $49.5 million contract for 23-year-old Rougned Odor — won't be final for some time, it was pretty clear Monday that there were immediate dividends. Yes, the Rangers blew a four-run lead in a season-opening 8-5 loss to Cleveland, and that was a story. [But it was Odor who did the heavy lifting]( in building the lead in the first place with homers in his first two at-bats. He became the seventh Ranger to hit two homers in a season opener and the first since 2000. Finally, May municipal and school elections are just around the corner.
