Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne to join Trump Administration
Irving Mayor [Beth Van Duyne is headed for a job with the Trump administration](, she told a gathering at the AT&T Bryon Nelson kickoff luncheon Thursday.Â
"I keep saying next week because I've been told the paperwork is going to be done next week," she said. "But next week I'll actually be able to make an announcement."Â
Her choice to not seek a third term in office led to speculation that she was headed to Washington, as one of the few large-city mayors in America to back Donald Trump's presidential campaign.
Meanwhile: President Donald [Trump declared war on House conservatives who helped derail his health care plan]( last week, threatening to unseat them in 2018 — and lumping them with Democrats as the cause of his troubles.Â

Ken Paxton trials are moved and delayed
A judge ruled Thursday to [move Attorney General Ken Paxton's upcoming trials out of Collin County](, a major victory for prosecutors, who argued that his friends and political allies have sought to malign them in the court of public opinion there.Â
Judge George Gallagher ruled the trials should be moved out of Paxton's backyard but did not set a location for where they would take place. The trials, which were to kick off May 1, will be delayed until a new venue is set.
In his ruling, Gallagher did not elaborate on why he sided with the prosecution. He also denied Paxton's request to have his indictments thrown out.
Meanwhile: Also, Gov. Greg Abbott's [hard-line immigration stand could swell foster-care rolls](, jeopardizing successful programs that keep families together as parents seek help.
A new SPCA of Texas spay-and-neuter clinic rolls on wheels. It is exclusively dedicated to southern Dallas, where the loose dog problem is worst.
Private donors raise $13.5M for massive spay and neuter effort of southern Dallas dogs
Nonprofit leaders have raised enough money to [begin a massive spay-and-neuter effort in a bid]( to help Dallas' loose-dog crisis.Â
The Rees-Jones foundation, the W. W. Caruth Foundation and the Dallas Foundation have contributed a total of $13.5 million toward an unprecedented $24 million spay-and-neuter campaign.
The city's goal is to perform 46,000 operations on dogs every year for the next three years. Veterinarians working for the SPCA of Texas, the Spay Neuter Network and Operation Kindness will perform the surgeries and target ZIP codes in southern Dallas.
