'The whole world is looking' at Dallas as grand jury hears evidence in Botham Jean case
A Dallas County jury [heard evidence Monday against a Dallas police officer who shot and killed a 26-year accountant in his own home]( while he was watching a football game, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the case.
Amber Guyger, 30, was arrested on a manslaughter charge Sept. 9, three days after killing 26-year-old Botham Jean. She told authorities that she mistook his apartment for hers on the night of Sept. 6 and thought he was a burglar.
A spokeswoman for the Dallas County District Attorney's office, Kimberlee Leach, declined to comment about whether the grand jury was hearing the case Monday. "The case is ready for a grand jury," she said.
The grand jury could indict Guyger for manslaughter charge but could also decide murder is the more appropriate charge. Guyger could also face no charges in Jean's death.

Beto O'Rourke condemns use of tear gas against migrants at border, including children
Rep. Beto O'Rourke and other Texas Democrats [erupted in outrage after U.S. Border Patrol used tear gas on Sunday]( to repel migrants seeking asylum near San Diego, appalled by the images of children and young mothers fleeing the clouds.
"It should tell us something about her home country that a mother is willing to travel 2,000 miles with her 4-month old son to come here," the El Paso Democrat posted online.
The clash Sunday came at the San Ysidro crossing from Tijuana, one of the world's busiest international bridges. The Trump administration has refused to allow migrants seeking asylum into the United States, although U.S. law provides that opportunity and Trump's critics say he lacks the authority to disregard that law.
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen defended the use of tear gas, saying that some of the migrants had thrown rocks at American border guards.

Dallas' landmark Masonic Temple is the newest downtown office address
One of downtown Dallas' most unique office projects is creating a new use for an old building.
The almost 80-year-old Masonic Temple on Harwood Street served thousands of Masons in North Texas for decades. For almost 10 years, the property has been vacant, awaiting redevelopment.
Now, the 41,000-square-foot historic building [is being renovated as part of the East Quarter development on downtown's east side.](
Developer Todd Interests is installing new elevators and adding a roof deck for prospective office tenants.
"We've had a lot of interest from single-tenant office users," Todd Interests' Patrick Todd said. "A company can have their own office building, front yard and parking lot all to themselves."

Could having Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court affect abortion laws in Texas?Â
When Justice Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court this year, the bench tipped to the right, leading abortion rights supporters and opponents [to wonder about the fate of the landmark Roe vs. Wade decision.](
Mary Volcansek, a political science professor at Texas Christian University, said despite abortion being legal for the last 45 years, many states â including Texas â have passed highly restrictive laws, making Roe almost irrelevant.
âWill Kavanaugh help overturn Roe? Thatâs the $64,000 question,â she said. âIn some ways, it doesnât matter because Roe has already been gutted so much.â
Having Roe on the books matters to abortion rights advocates, but they say they're more concerned with fighting anti-abortion legislation at the state level. Opponents also say they're focused on state laws, particularly defending ones in Texas that have been challenged in court.
