Latinos could turn Texas blue in 2020 if enthusiasm holds, some say
The blue wave lapped at the shores of Texas this year -- [and it was powered by Latino voters](.
Though Republicans held on against the current in statewide races, Latinos helped send El Paso’s Veronica Escobar and Houston’s Sylvia Garcia of Houston to D.C. They’ll be the state’s first two Latinas to represent the state in Congress.
Democrats won 12 Texas House seats, including five in Dallas, and unseated two North Texas Republican state senators.
And the surge of Latino voters across the state almost made the difference in the nationally watched Senate race between Beto O’Rourke and Ted Cruz.
Commentary:Ă‚ Can a Democrat [ever win the hearts of rural Texans](?
And:Ă‚ Native Texans [voted for native Texan Beto O'Rourke while transplants went for Ted Cruz](, exit polling shows.

If talent trumps all for Amazon HQ2, will Dallas have enough of it?
Business columnist Mitchell Schnurman writes:
Washington and New York have something that Dallas doesn’t, and not just sky-high home prices and apartment rents.
The two major metros have much larger, deeper pools of talent — both in college-educated millennials and tech workers. They’re also much stronger magnets for college graduates.
So if news reports about Amazon choosing to put its second headquarters in Washington and New York are accurate, the reason will be clear: [Talent trumps all, at least for Amazon](.
Dallas can go toe-to-toe with anywhere when it comes to recruiting companies, and its relatively low cost of living can be decisive. But today's job market is all about the war for talent — and on that score, Dallas can’t match the firepower of the East Coast capitals.
Also:Ă‚ Fidelity president Kathleen Murphy [is fed up with the investment world being created by men in the image of men]( at the expense of women.
And:Ă‚ Is Walmart a winner [if Amazon HQ2 skips Texas](?
EDITORS' PICKS

- Race for the Big 12 Championship Game: With two weeks left, [four teams are still in the mix for a berth to the title game](.

- Crime:Ă‚ Authorities [are still hunting for an escapee]( who climbed over a gate at a Dallas County Jail.
- Helping hands:Ă‚ [North Texas firefighters]( head to California as wildfires scorch the Golden State.
- Who's laughing now?Ă‚ [Texas Congressman-elect Dan Crenshaw]( accepts Pete Davidson's apology on SNL and makes jokes of his own.

Finally...
Cowboys turned in one of their best games in 27-20 win in Philadelphia
The Cowboys spent the days leading up to Sunday night's game being derided and dismissed.
Discussion didn't focus on the remainder of this season. Skeptics had moved on to a future without head coach Jason Garrett and scratched their heads over a declaration by owner Jerry Jones that he intends to extend quarterback Dak Prescott.
All of the elements were in place for this team to fold. [Instead, players and coaches responded with one of their better efforts of the season for a 27-20 victory over Philadelphia.](
