The Justice Department said Cesar Sayoc Jr. has been taken into custody for questioning in connection with the packages as part of "an important investigative step." According to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who addressed the media on Friday, Sayoc faces several federal charges, including interstate transportation of explosives, illegal mailing of explosives, threats against former presidents and other persons and threatening current or former federal officers. "These charges may change or expand as the investigation proceeds," Sessions said. The phone has been disconnected and the operators have not responded to requests about the restaurant closure. Co-owner Shawn Rao told CultureMap that the building needed work and "ultimately we decided it was time to get out of that neighborhood." Don Chingon was a popular happy hour spot, selling frozen cocktails named after celebrities like Sofia Vergara and Ricky Martin.
