Higher mortgage costs hammer D-FW homebuyers with payment increasesÂ

Nationwide, home buyers are forced to spend $1,400 more a year — about $118 a month — in home mortgage payments thanks to recent increases in home loan rates, according to a new report from Zillow.
With average long-term mortgage costs across the country at close to 5 percent, home loan rates have risen by more than one percentage point since 2016. Home mortgage rates are now at a seven-year high, and interest rates are expected to continue to increase further in 2019.

By Tuesday, the cold front that brought rain to Dallas-Fort Worth and plunged temperatures into the 40s had made its way through essentially the entire state of Texas. So if the front has passed, why won’t the rain stop?
[The answer lies in a weather term called overrunning.](
“Behind the cold front, naturally, you’re going to have cold air,” KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Rick Mitchell said. “Out ahead of the front, you have a lot of moist air that is actually coming in and rising up over the cold air — the layer of cold air is only a few thousand feet thick.”
