The Army says it wants to "own the night" with technology such as enhanced night vision goggles and binocular-style goggles with infrared and thermal imaging capabilities.. (U.S. Army)
Dallas
The Army wants a new HQ for its high-tech future, and Dallas is in its scope
Imagine the battlefield of the future. Â Think of something out of the movies: night-vision goggles zooming in on targets and providing a Terminator-style display of data. Body armor stronger than Kevlar, lightweight and flexible as a windbreaker.
Unmanned ground vehicles infiltrate hostile territory assisted by waves of robots scanning the landscape and relaying data back to human soldiers â or even unleashed to fight.
Itâs  not in Hollywood where the Army is seeing the future, but about 300 miles north in Silicon Valley. Or anywhere else the military can find a few good engineers, software developers and robotics designers.
[Dallas is one of 15 cities that have emerged as finalists for the Futures Commandâs new headquarters.]( Two other Texas cities, Houston and Austin, are also on the list.

Ted Cruz blasts 'knee-jerk partisanship' over Trump's claim of 'absolute right' to self-pardon
Sen. Ted Cruz issued a lengthy tweetstorm late Monday [over President Donald Trumpâs declaration of absolute power to self-pardon](, blasting an "abundance of knee-jerk partisanshipâ over Trumpâs claim while refraining from coming down on either side."
"Virtually every Dem is saying 'of course not, the president can't pardon himself (mostly because we hate Trump).' On the other hand, some Rs are saying âof course the president can.â If we were actually focusing on the Constitution, the answer would be more complicated,â the Harvard Law graduate opined.
The tweetstorm, issued around 11 p.m. Monday, came hours after Trump declared on Twitter: "As has been stated by numerous legal scholars, I have the absolute right to PARDON myself, but why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong?"
Staying in:Â GOP leader Mitch McConnell [cited Democratic "obstruction" in canceling the Senate's August recess](, but Democrats say the GOP is nervous about elections.
Meanwhile: Yes, that charity basketball showdown between Jimmy Kimmel and Ted Cruz [really is happening.](

COMMENTARY
Decades of silencing and marginalizing women has left Southern Baptists morally compromised
Former religion reporter Peggy Wehmeyer writes about[the crisis now facing the Southern Baptist convention](.
First came sexual harassment scandals in powerful evangelical pulpits. Then the movement's best-known female Bible teacher, Beth Moore, charged church leaders across the country with widespread misogyny. And now the president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth has been fired for religious chauvinism that pressed abused women to stay with their husbands and a rape victim to forgive and drop charges against her perpetrator.
"The terrible swift sword of public humiliation has come with a vengeance," warned one powerful church leader, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Al Mohler. He added that the story's not over.
I should have seen it coming. I'm one of millions of American women who converted to evangelical Christianity because of its life-changing promise of hope and healing. The problem is that some of the men in leadership have used the Bible to mask a patriarchal misogyny. That's what's driving today's #MeToo church movement. A whole host of leaders, like fired seminary president Paige Patterson, have silenced and marginalized the voices of women for decades. And that leaves my faith family morally compromised.

Father of slain DPD officer unveils new fallen officer monument coming to downtown Dallas
Soon after the murder of his son and four other officers on July 7, 2016, Enrique Zamarripa had the idea that a monument to honor them should be erected in Dallas.
Now, [his idea is slated to become a reality.]( On Tuesday, the Dallas County commissioners court approved plans for a giant bronze sculpture of a woman and child hugging a male officer to be placed in Founders Plaza in downtown Dallas.Â
