May 31,  2018 By Holly Rusak Good evening! Here is a look at the top headlines of the day. 🔎 Prefer the online view? It's [here](. But this week, he got another little taste of a bigger stage. Carter was the subject of a Bloomberg News report that chronicled [how a reporter for the right-wing website Breitbart courted him as part of an effort to win or suppress black votes in the 2016 presidential election](. Before he became a Trump operative, Carter was best known nationally for running the group Black Men for Bernie — meaning Bernie Sanders, the socialist candidate seeking the Democratic nomination. But, Bloomberg reported, a Breitbart staffer, Dustin Stockton encouraged Carter to flip his allegiance to Trump after Hillary Clinton became the Democratic nominee. During the campaign, part of his goal was to tell black people to stay at home if they weren't voting for Trump. Carter was also publicly critical of Democrats' work in black neighborhoods, and he still is. (David Woo/Staff Photographer) your health Dallas heat wave: Here's what doctors say you should know With the heat index in Dallas forecast to reach 108° by Saturday [local health care providers and emergency management teams are prepping for a potential spike in heat related medical issues](. The main concerns are heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat exhaustion is often marked by symptoms like dry mouth, dizziness, and excessive sweating, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Heat stroke is the most serious heat related illness, one in which the body loses the ability to regulate temperature on its own. That can lead to confusion, seizures, and death, experts explained. If you do have to brave the heat, here's how to stay safe: - Don’t wait until you’re thirsty. Drinking water consistently throughout the day, or non-caffeinated sports drinks. - Know where to cool down, if you must leave the house. - Recognize the early warning signs, like persistent muscle cramps, excessive sweating, dizziness or fatigue. - If you stop sweating, be worried. From the archives: [A Detroit transplant in 1982 was sweating the Texas summer]( ... in May. [Soon, it will be the new home of the COURAGE Youthful Offender Program](, where the state incarcerates teen inmates who are tried as adults and convicted of serious felonies. For decades, the "YOP," as it's known, was headquartered in the Clemens Unit on the coast, a smaller, much older facility. But after an adult inmate was caught engaging in a sex act with a teen last year, the warden lost his job and the state decided to move the program. A new youth wing at the Ellis Unit is completely revamped and renovated; a fresh start for a long-divisive program The program's 31 teens — men in the eyes of the law — arrive soon, probably later this summer. Their rehabilitation will depend on the choices they make, prison officials said, and on changes the officials say have recreated the way Texas will treat the troubled teens.  School threat: With two days left before summer break, [extra security was stationed at Heritage High School as a precaution after rumors have gone viral on social media about a potential threat](.
