A good neighbor finally did what Dallas City Hall couldn't â stopped the terror next door
City Columnist Robert Wilonsky follows up on a [recent column of his](:
Earlier this week, I wrote about a house a couple of blocks from mine where an alleged home invasion ended with a point-blank shooting. Ten days later, it's still a crime scene: Friday afternoon a neighbor texted that she saw cops and code compliance officers out front.Â
[The house has been a problem for years but I know there's nothing special about that address on Camelot Drive in northwest Dallas](. You know, the house Dallas City Hall says it can't do anything about, even though the homeowners don't even live there and have managed to skate on paying their property taxes.
I spoke to a lot of city officials last week, and they all said they were trying, but gosh it's so frustrating. Best they've ever been able to do was get a warrant, cut the lawn and slap another lien on the sucker, like that'll do any good when the owners owe a fortune in delinquent taxes.
Turns out, we didn't need City Hall at all to get higher authorities to put pressure on the homeowners. All it took was a fed-up neighbor who knew what to look for and a single email he sent to the Dallas Central Appraisal District.
